The Global Health (GH) Practice Director is a senior leadership position within Panagora. The role involves providing strategic and technical leadership of the practice, ensuring high-quality delivery of a comprehensive portfolio of program activities. Additionally, the role involves managing staff performance and professional development, and fostering a motivating, inclusive work environment. The GH Practice Director leads new business development efforts to expand Panagora’s reach and influence, including identifying opportunities, crafting winning proposals, building strategic partnerships, and cultivating new clients. Finally, it champions technical excellence and thought leadership, contributing to knowledge management, industry engagement, and the development and dissemination of innovative approaches.

Responsibilities
Practice management

  • Provide overall leadership and direction to the practice to advance Panagora’s mission, vision, and values
  • Align practice portfolio with Panagora’s corporate objectives, ensuring that success indicators are met by setting and communicating clear expectations for performance standards
  • Develop and execute cost-effective business strategies to ensure annual revenue, new business, and other practice-level targets are met
  • Ensure Practice-level financial performance and billability targets are met
  • Support continual improvements to ensure high quality programs are optimally managed within Panagora’s standards
  • Ensure company policies, procedures, and quality standards are communicated to practice staff and upheld consistently

Staff management

  • Directly supervise director-level staff as assigned
  • Communicate clear performance goals and standards, ensuring direct reports receive regular
    performance feedback, prompt resolution of problems, and opportunities to develop professionally
  • Manage staff assignments to maintain balanced workloads and efficient resource allocation across projects
  • Promote staff development and ensure high levels of motivation, commitment, and teamwork, ensuring a respectful, productive, and inclusive work environment

New business development

  • Lead GH new business solution discussions and coordinate closely with others throughout Panagora
  • Serve as czar, writer, and other lead roles on proposal teams, contributing to program design and recruitment of high-quality personnel
  • Develop win strategies and provide vision that translate to winning proposals
  • Present opportunities to the STEP review committee with a well-defined business case to support capture and go/no-go decisions, ensuring alignment with Panagora’s strategic priorities and resources
  • Seek out new business opportunities to maximize Panagora’s impact and leverage
  • Maintain a network of potential partners, formulating teaming strategies to maximize Panagora’s competitiveness and impact

Technical excellence and thought leadership

  • Provide technical support to project activities through short-term assignments, technical reviews, research, and writing
  • Lead knowledge sharing by promoting capture and dissemination of project approaches, innovations, and success stories
  • Ensure project updates, lessons learned, and success stories are captured for marketing, communications, and learning purposes
  • Lead a global health Community of Practice, exercising good stewardship and management of technical knowledge throughout Panagora
  • Contribute to industry forums, working groups, conferences, and learning events
  • Lead development of technical abstracts, articles, tools, and summaries of Panagora’s approaches

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in international development or an advanced degree in a relevant field
    10-15 years of relevant work experience in USAID-funded global health programming, with understanding of monitoring, research, learning, and adaptive management
  • Demonstrated practical experience in project management in a USAID context with a thorough understanding of the rules and regulations of the federal government
  • Thorough understanding of USAID market, with track record of leading new business and winning proposals
  • Motivated by working in a dynamic environment on multiple tasks against deadlines
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Strong business acumen, work ethic, and demonstrated versatility and flexibility
  • Excellent verbal and written communications aligned with outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in one or more foreign languages, preferred

Reports to: Executive Vice President Programs

Salary range: $130,000 – $204,000

Departments/teams will hold in-person meetings that involve a high degree of collaboration, where ideas are generated quickly and often feed off each other, e.g., brainstorming, storyboarding, proposal development, strategic planning, and performance discussions. Staff who reside in the DC/MD/VA area are strongly encouraged to work from the office on those days.
