Hatfield College and the Role
Hatfield is Durham University’s second oldest college. Situated on the Bailey, close to the Cathedral, overlooking the River Wear, the College combines a thoroughly contemporary outlook with pride in its historical roots and traditions. It attracts a wide diversity of students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, with a broad range of interests, experiences and backgrounds. Reflecting the College ethos, #AllOneHatfield, all students are encouraged and supported to take up opportunities, to participate, and to contribute to the wellbeing of a thriving community. Hatfield also has an active Senior Common Room, comprising members from both within and outside the University, and a thriving and supportive alumni community.
The post holder will be involved in a wide range of activities, ensuring efficient and effective administrative support for the College management team. They will join a small group of staff in a busy College Office providing assistance with areas such as student support queries and administration; the organisation of events and student enrichment activities including the College mentor scheme and alumni engagement; accommodation administration; student discipline administration; and meeting organisation, support and note-taking.
The post holder will combine sound administrative skills with an enthusiasm for supporting students and College life more broadly.

What you need to demonstrate when you apply
To be considered for this role, here are the skills/experience we’re looking for:
Essential Qualifications/Experience
1. Five GCSE’s at least Grade C or level four (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent experience).
2. Experience of working in a busy office environment delivering front line administrative services or having relevant qualifications for the role.
3. Experience of managing time to meet tight deadlines and working under pressure without compromising on quality.
Essential Skills/Abilities/Knowledge
4. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
5. Good digital skills including experience in using digital devices and apps including the internet, email, digital communication tools, Microsoft 365 applications, digital booking systems. Proven IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office.
6. Experience of working in a team.
7. Ability to solve problems and resolve straightforward issues yourself and as part of a team.
8. Ability to provide advice and guidance to a range of colleagues and customers.
Desirable Criteria
9. Experience of working with students.
10. Ability to facilitate College social media communications
11. Committed to continuing professional development. Evidence of personal development to maintain skills.
12. Post-16 qualification or equivalent experience.
13. Knowledge of administrative procedures in a higher education setting.
