This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join Tottenham Hotspur Football Club as Head of Men’s Medical. This role will provide clinical oversight, leadership, development and management of a best-in-class medical department to provide the highest standard of evidence-based care, in line with the Director of Performance’s departmental strategic plan. The candidate will ensure an aligned and positive working relationship throughout the medical and performance staff, driving a progressive, inspiring, and high-performing culture.Job Purpose:To lead and manage the Men’s 1st team Sport Medicine (SM) support delivery; inclusive of performing clinical duties.
Develop and align the Men’s 1st team SM support to the football performance strategy of the club and head coach.
Provide line management of the Men’s 1st team physiotherapists, soft tissue therapists, osteopath and doctors, including the maintenance of individual reviews and appraisal.Key Responsibilities:To develop and maintain assessment and evaluation techniques to monitor the effectiveness of the Men’s 1st team SM delivery.
To ensure the practical implementation of best SM practice for Men’s 1st team This will include the continued development and adherence to agreed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Emergency Actions Plans (EAP).
Acute Intervention: To direct the injury assessment and management of all 1st team
Injury Prevention: To reduce the risk of injury occurrence within the 1st team; including the development of appropriate screening and injury prevention strategies.
Rehabilitation: Create and development evidence based “return to play protocols” for the 1st team players, to allow them to compete at the highest level while minimising the risk of reoccurrence of
Manage and contribute to the Men’s 1st team SM department emergency aid cover for both training sessions and This will include ensuring that all emergency accreditation is met to league and legal standards for all SM staff.
In collaboration with club doctors, continue the development and implementation of the internal emergency aid training and anti-doping programme. This will include compliance with the FA and UEFA anti-doping regulations, and education of staff and players surrounding their responsibilities.
Provide leadership in the continued development of the Men’s 1st team SM staff. Encourage an interdisciplinary approach of working within the Men’s 1st team that includes close liaison with colleagues within the Academy.
To maintain all legal and professional qualifications in relation to own profession and the equivalent standards for all SM staff within the department.
To ensure collaboration and excellent lines of communication between the SM department, the coaching staff, and the wider MSS team.
To maintain detailed records for the department of all SM actions in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures and to aid in the creation of regular reports to key
To ensure the latest clinical, scientific, and technical innovations to practice are incorporated into the department to maintain the highest level of care.
In conjunction with the Director of Performance Services, facilitate SM research projects within the Men’s 1st team to underpin practice and direct the latest research findings into clear and practical recommendations within the SM department.
Liaise with the Director of Performance services and the training ground operations staff to continually develop and manage SM facilities and
To review budgetary needs for the SM department in coordination with the Director of Performance

A Masters degree in relevant area (e.g. Sport and Exercise Medicine).
Evidence of an extensive and structured CPD portfolio – showing a range of different clinical skills including being FA ATMIFF trained.
Extensive injury screening, diagnostic, manual therapy and sports rehabilitation
Extensive knowledge in injury prevention methods and recovery
An excellent understanding of scientific methods of trialing and validating assessment monitoring and evaluation equipment and protocols.
Significant experience in the management of sport medicine support within high performance This should include experience of working within 1st team professional football.
Extensive experience working as a practitioner within multi-disciplinary medical and sport science
Significant experience liaising with football players and coaches to deliver successful sport medicine related
Experience in developing and implementing a continued professional development plan for sport medicine staff within a high-performance sport department.
Experience in coach and athlete education in high performance
Significant experience in conducting scientifically underpinned assessment monitoring, and evaluation
Experience of using data management systems to ensure the secure and efficient storage of monitoring and evaluation data.
