Head Office Commercial provides commercial contracts and services to our customers with a contract landscape of circa £4Bn pa. We advise and support our customers by creating routes to market for a diverse range of products and services, managing all aspects of customer and supplier relationships whilst spending taxpayer’s money in an effective and compliant manner. 

The Head Office Category Management team is at the forefront of the implementation of category management within MOD, working as a key part of a broader Category Management Transformation Programme. Head Office Category Management is the pan MOD lead for consultancy, professional services, people services and corporate services through the full commercial lifecycle.

As a Commercial Category Manager, you will establish positive relationships with a diverse range of customers across MOD, creating market leading category strategies and delivering routes to market for current and future needs. Effective relationship development and stakeholder management skills are key to your success.

This role requires drive, enthusiasm and dynamism from the successful candidate. Key areas of focus will include market analysis, spending reviews, identifying cost drivers, reviews of supply chain and contract requirements. You will establish then align internal and external category expectations, and deliver change across MOD Commercial as part of transformation activities

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. 

Job description

A vacancy has arisen within the MOD Head Office Consultancy & Professional Services Category Management Team, working within a small team to deliver category management for this key business area pan-MOD.

  • Proactively engage with MOD counterparts, other government departments, Crown Commercial Services and external suppliers, ensuring those best practices identified are shared with others
  • Lead the Consultancy Advisory Service (CAS), providing expert category advice and guidance to a range of customers and stakeholders and act as the commercial point of contact for External Assistance Panel Business Case reviews
  • Lead the re-procurement of the Cat A, pan-MOD Commercial Delivery Partner requirement
  • Lead the contract management of the current Commercial Delivery Partner contract
  • Responsible for maintaining the internal EA Hub intranet site, ensuring timely and informative updates
  • Input into and present at the People Pillar Category Council
  • Collaborate with the wider External Assistance team members to identify Contract Management opportunities to deliver benefits.
  • Identify and support the implementation of commercial routes to market to drive growth in benefits.

Person specification

Strong experience of relationship development and stakeholder management within Commercial environments

Proactive leadership of contract, supplier and performance management activities

Expertise in supporting the defining of requirements, development of sourcing strategies and identification of appropriate sourcing options

Experience of public sector procurement, leading on tendering activities including stakeholder engagement with various stakeholder groups

Desirable:

  • Good working knowledge of MODs eProcurement tools, CP&F and DSP[Desirable] Experience of working in a category management environment supporting the development and implementation of category strategies.
  • Relevant Contract Management experience, including awareness/exposure to a variety of resource delivery models and all related process and governance
  • Hold CIPS Level 4 (or be willing to work towards)
