Health Information Management Analyst

Overview

This role is part of the Health Information Services Department, a shared service of the Dartmouth Health health system that centers on the patient’s health (medical) record. The HIM Analyst is responsible for ensuring provider documentation is timely and accurately completed in compliance with regulations and organizational guidelines. The HIM Analyst facilitates chart corrections and assists with maintaining the electronic Master Patient Index (eMPI).

Responsibilities

  1. Reviews electronic medical records for accuracy, completeness and timeliness and notifies providers of incomplete records.
  2. Maintains the deficiency tracking system to reflect the status of provider and staff documentation timelines.
  3. Monitors and tracks chart correction issues, working closely with providers, clinic staff, and IT staff to resolve.
  4. Collaborates with coding staff to ensure documentation is present to support billing activities.
  5. Monitors the timeliness of uploaded documents and resolves any issues with the upload process.
  6. Assists with maintaining the Dartmouth Health electronic Master Patient Index (eMPI).
  7. Maintains and safeguards all health information in both electronic and paper form.
  8. Provides excellent customer service and displays professionalism both when interacting with internal/external customers and when responding to phone calls or email.
  9. Works independently with self-discipline and works well in a team environment.
  10. Maintains total confidentiality regarding all patient information.
  11. Performs other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with all aspects of medical records, including electronic medical records, preferred. Experience with Epic EMR desired.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and/or coding preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel preferred.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal).
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to work as a team and use sound judgment in decision-making
