JOB SUMMARY: The Health Information Manager (HIM) oversees the management of patient health records and ensures compliance with healthcare regulations. HIM is responsible for maintaining the integrity, confidentiality, and security of health information while optimizing the use of health information systems to enhance patient care and data integrity.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage and supervise the health information department, including staff training and development.
Recruit, manage and develop direct reporting staff.
Ensure the accuracy, completeness, confidentiality, and security of patient health information in accordance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards.
Develop and implement policies and procedures for effective health information management and record-keeping.
Manage electronic health record (EHR) systems, ensuring efficient data entry, retrieval, and maintenance.
Conduct regular audits and assessments of health records to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
Collaborate with healthcare providers to improve documentation practices and ensure quality care delivery.
Stay updated on changes in healthcare regulations and technology affecting health information management.
Provide guidance and support to all staff regarding health information policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
Serve as a resource for staff regarding health information policies, procedures, and best practices.
Prepare reports and presentations for management regarding health information metrics and compliance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Proven experience in health information management or a related role.
Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and other privacy laws.
Proficiency in health information systems and electronic health records.
Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Proficient in data analysis and reporting tools with ability to generate reports effectively.
Detail oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education – bachelor’s degree in health information management, Health Administration, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
Certification – Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
Experience – Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in health information management or a related field.
