Job Summary

The Manager – Health Information is responsible for establishing and maintaining successful health information management processes and staffing, as well as supportive technology systems and services throughout Avera. This includes, but not limited to, supervision and education of personnel, processes and staffing to attain and maintain established goals, evaluation of software vendor responsibilities, legal/regulatory integrity of the medical record, identification of organizational opportunities and system failure plans. The Manager will work with stakeholders to understand complex issues, recognize decision points and design and deliver creative solutions while partnering with a wide variety of clinical settings and facilities. The position will be working with all levels of staff and leadership across other departments and organizations. The Manager is responsible for managing and monitoring performance and quality metrics as well as metrics relative to record processing workflow impacting patient care and the revenue cycle. The Manager will assist in the establishment of performance metrics, policies and procedures, departmental objectives, and other administrative tasks. Key to this position is strong leadership, teamwork, vision, and process management/improvement abilities. The Manager is expected to work within an Avera facility.

Education and/or Experience

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a healthcare related field is required.
  • Degree in health information administration from an American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) accredited school preferred or an equivalent healthcare filed accepted.
  • A minimum of two years of previous health information management experience preferred.
  • A minimum of one to two years of leadership experience preferred.
  • A minimum of two years with electronic health records systems, including 3rd party vendors and interfaces, is preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • AHIMA’s certification preferred; Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
  • Other certification optional: Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity’s (AHDI) Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT), or Certified Healthcare Documentation Specialist (CHDS), or Registered Healthcare Documentation Specialist (RHDS).
