THIS POSITION IS LOCATED ON-SITE AT MEMORIAL HOSPITAL AND MANOR LOCATED IN BAINBRIDGE, GEORGIA.

Work approximately 10 to 15 hours per week.

The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist (Part-Time) is responsible for performing various technical functions including medical record review, analysis, transcription processing, birth and death certificate processing/completion, record completion, Mater Patient Index (MPI) integrity maintenance, medical record processing to include, but not limited to release of information, prep records and scanning/indexing, Quality Assurance (QA) for scanning, retrieval and filing of records, and other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY:

1. Performs HIM Technician work as assigned as their major responsibilities: 

  • Check appropriate functions/duties
  • Medical record review/performance improvement
  • Medical record analysis
  • Transcription processing
  • Birth certificate processing
  • Death certificate processing
  • Record completion duties
  • MPI integrity maintenance
  • Prep/Scanning/Indexing/QA
  • Release of Information
  • Other duties, as assigned

2. Provides coverage for HIM department as needed as well as these additional functions:

  • Medical record review/performance improvement
  • Medical record analysis
  • Transcription processing
  • Birth certificate processing
  • Death certificate processing
  • Record completion duties
  • MPI integrity maintenance
  • Prep/Scanning/Indexing/QA
  • Release of Information
  • Other duties, as assigned

3. Performs customer service activities.

  • Answering telephones
  • Follow up with physician/physician office calls
  • Follow up with Business Office calls
  • Follow up with other Department calls

4. Record Keeping. 

  • Maintain daily productivity reports and submit timely

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma (Additional equivalent experience above the required minimum may substitute for the required level of education.)
  • 2-3 years of progressive experience in a hospital setting (Additional equivalent education above the required minimum may substitute for the required level of experience.)
  • Electronic health record (EHR) experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • RHIT and/or RHIA credential is a plus.
  • Understanding of health information concepts.
  • Ability to perform basic computer functions.
  • Ability to perform basic data entry in Microsoft Word and excel is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and interact professionally with public, physicians and hospital personnel.
  • Abilities for critical thinking skills to identify and locate information in various mediums and locations, knowledge of medical record forms and documentation requirements, understanding of patient information and process flow, ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to read, understand and reiterate regulatory requirements, hospital medical staff rules and regulations.
  • Ability to respond correctly to a multitude of information requests.
