Main Purpose

As a member of a team led by the Service Head, the incumbent translates, drafts and edits, as required, a range of administrative, legal, economic, scientific and technical content.

Role

The Language Specialist (Translator) applies his/her analytical and linguistic skills to translating, drafting or editing content, as required. He/she might need to clarify points of language in Spanish content for other Language Service teams.

Functions / Key Results Expected

The Language Specialist (Translator) may be responsible for all or some of the following functions:

Translate into Spanish a broad range of administrative, legal, scientific and technical content ensuring that translations are equivalent in meaning and style to the original content.

Edit content in Spanish as required.

Draft official records of official Policy Making Organs (PMO) meetings, or any other type of document, as required.

Clarify points of language in Spanish content for other Language Service teams.

Research terminology to assist in the development of the central terminology database.

Perform any other duties, as required, to support the work of the Service.

Suggest innovative solutions and workflow efficiencies, as appropriate, to streamline the work of the Service.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

Bachelor’s Degree – University degree in languages or a related field. Degrees in other fields will be considered, as appropriate.

At least five years of relevant working experience in translating texts into Spanish.

Experience in an international organization would be a strong asset.

Spanish as mother tongue or principal language of education, with a profound knowledge of its grammar, style and usage.

Familiarity with the IAEA and its operations is an asset.

Knowledge and experience in using Microsoft Office software and IT translation tools, in particular Trados Studio and MultiTerm.

Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian) is an asset.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $64121 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 35523*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; Other benefits include 6 weeks’ annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance. Appointment information

  • Appointment is subject to a satisfactory medical report.
  • Staff members may be assigned to any location.
  • Candidates appointed to posts in the Professional and higher categories are subject to IAEA rotation policy and their maximum tour of service shall normally be seven years.
  • The IAEA retains the discretion not to make any appointment to this vacancy, to make an appointment at a lower grade or with a different contract type, or to make an appointment with a modified job description or for shorter duration than indicated above.
