JOB DESCRIPTION

Background:

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is performing an in-depth analysis of international migration dynamics in Central America, encompassing both outflows and inflows. Part of this work involves a quantitative analysis using a structural modeling framework to study cross-border migration decisions, with a particular focus on return migration. IFPRI seeks a consultant for a 5-month appointment in its Markets, Trade, and Institutions Unit, to collaborate in this study conducting theoretical modeling, data processing and model calibrations and simulations; and report drafting. The position is based remotely and may require travel to IFPRI headquarters in Washington, DC.

 

Scope of work:

Develop a theoretical framework for analysis.
Calibrate the model using data compiled from different sources.
Perform simulation and statistical analysis.
Draft reports of theoretical and quantitative analyses performed.

Required Qualifications:

PhD in Economics or closely related field.

Excellent skills in economic and structural modeling.

Excellent econometric and statistical skills.

Sound knowledge of Matlab.

Experience with quantitative research methods.

Excellent writing and analytical skills.

Fluency in written and spoken English.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work independently and with initiative, and with colleagues from diverse cultures.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Sound knowledge of macroeconomics and microeconomics.

Knowledge of STATA.

Research experience on development and migration issues.
