JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a Research Analyst I/II for a one-year, exempt, renewable appointment in its Foresight and Policy Modeling Unit. This position is based at IFPRI headquarters in Washington, DC, but could involve travel to any of the countries in which IFPRI carries out its research. The position will focus on research related to foresight modeling using the IMPACT system of models to analyze baseline and alternative scenarios exploring the future of food systems.

Essential Duties:

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Managing technical components of projects using the IMPACT system of models with guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Assisting in the design, implementation and analysis of baseline and alternative future scenarios for various projects using IMPACT, in collaboration with other IMPACT team members and partners.
  • Conducting literature reviews and syntheses in support of project activities as needed.
  • Assisting in regular maintenance, updating and improvement of IMPACT modeling tools and parameters.
  • Contributing to preparation of and, as appropriate, authoring or coauthoring discussion papers, reports, journal articles, policy briefs and blog posts.
  • Developing data documentation manuals or other learning materials, as needed.
  • Assisting with the training of project collaborators and research partners, as needed.
  • Responding to internal and external data requests.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • At the Research Analyst I level, Bachelors’ degree plus two years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Statistics, Public Policy or a closely related field.
  • At the Research Analyst II level, Master’s degree in the above-mentioned fields plus three years of relevant post Master’s work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research, including quantitative data analysis.
  • Excellent skills in programming in GAMS and in managing large databases.
  • Experienced in conducting literature reviews of academic publications, research reports, etc.
  • Demonstrated fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task as needed, consistently meet deadlines and manage time well.
  • Demonstrated professional level of attention to detail and accuracy of work.
  • Ability to work independently, with self-initiative and minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with common software packages & internet-based systems.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in effective interaction and coordination of research activities with collaborators and project partners.
  • Strong background in analysis of food and agricultural development issues.
  • Experience with other math/statistical programming environments a plus.
  • Proficiency in a second language.

Physical Demand & Work environment:

  • Employee will sit in an upright position for a long period of time

  • Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing computer terminal; extensive reading

Salary Range: The expected salary range for this job requisition is between $55,600 – $69,500 at grade 18 R and between $ 64,200 – $ 80,200 at grade 19 R. In determining your salary, we will consider your experience and other job-related factors.
