Duties and Responsibilities
The position of Fund Raising Support Intern is located in the Office of the Assistant Secretary General (OASG) of the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism to Assist in the Investigation and Prosecution of Persons Responsible for the Most Serious Crimes under International Law Committed in the Syrian Arab Republic since March 2011 (IIIM), located in Geneva, Switzerland. The intern will work under the supervision of the Donor Relations Officer (DRO), to support ongoing efforts to secure adequate funding for the mechanism. The duties of the Fund Raising Support Intern include, but are not limited to: – Support ongoing efforts to track donor contractual commitments, including reporting deadlines – Assisting in identifying prospective donors – Assisting in keeping a comprehensive overview of donor contacts, both existing and potential – Assisting in the archiving of fund raising files and documents – Drafting meeting minutes A IIIM internship is unpaid and full-time. Core working hours are Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 18:00 hours. Overtime may be required to meet deadlines for specific projects. The internship is designed to be remote but can be adjusted based on request by the successful candidate. The duration of this internship a maximum of six months.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent ). Interested candidates must be pursuing or have pursued their degree in areas related to this Job Opening, e.g. public relations, communications, political science or business administration. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required, such as Public Relations, Political Science, Business Administration or Communications. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Knowledge or experience of MS Dynamics is an advantage. Experience in fund raising is desirable. Experience in the preparation of donor reports is desirable. Experience in international human rights and/or international criminal law is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

For in-person internships, candidates of certain nationalities must obtain a visa authorizing their stay in Switzerland before they depart for Geneva to begin their internship. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
