Job Summary

The IMF is seeking a Deputy Director to serve as the Chief Digital Product Officer of the Information Technology Department (ITD). This is a unique opportunity to be responsible for leading the development and execution of the digital products strategy and operations for a premier international financial institution, supporting its mission of fostering stable and inclusive growth, resilience, and poverty reduction for a near-universal membership.

The role includes coordinating IT demand with all IMF departments, developing digital products and AI strategies collaboratively, aligning IT initiatives with business priorities, delivering cost-effective services with high satisfaction, and achieving desired outcomes from IT capital projects.

The candidate must work closely and coordinate with the Chief Technological Officer (CTO) and the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to ensure critical IT systems and operations perform at target levels while maintaining the necessary security and quality assurance for IT systems and information assets.

The Chief Digital Product Officer reports to the Director and Chief Information Officer (CIO) and will also serve as Acting CIO and representative of ITD as needed, liaising with top IMF Management, the IMF Executive Board, and other key stakeholders.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Partner with the Director and CIO to provide technology vision and direction for the IMF.
  • Establish a strong business relationship concept by aligning business and IT strategies, covering strategic, tactical, and operational layers.
  • Lead planning and managing of IT product and service development, including technical strategy, adoption of new technology e.g. AI, and rationalization activities.
  • Foster the adoption of AI in the IMF in a responsible manner, identifying opportunities across various business functions, and ensuring that there is a strong upskilling program.
  • Oversee the end-to-end implementation of IT capital projects from the ideation to the deployment ensuring that the solutions are scalable, robust, and aligned with the standard company’s technology solutions.
  • Provide in-depth technical expertise in support of enterprise business decisions. Identify and implement best practices for developing new application services and optimizing cost.
  • Establish enterprise technology product capabilities, standards, governance processes, and performance metrics to support ITD accountability in delivering value.
  • Plan, implement, direct, and monitor the integration of new technologies within the business processes making sure that we leverage this initiative with business process optimization and a corresponding change management plan.
  • Ensure appropriate Information Security and compliance are in place to address IT-related risks to the Fund.
  • Develop superior relationships with the Security/Risk Management, program and program organization inside and outside of IT.
  • Liaise between risk and audit teams, ensuring robust risk mitigation plans and addressing relevant open audits in a timely manner.
  • Manage resource requirements to appropriately balance tactical and strategic demands.
  • Lead IT product asset management team to ensure that assets achieve full lifecycle value.
  • Oversee IT workforce management, including sourcing, training and development of staff.
  • Continually look to improve the business value of IT through benchmarking, outcome driven metrics and embracing digital/technology development with business partners and vendors.
  • Facilitate communications across IT groups, user, and client communities.
  • Develop and manage strategic vendor and partnership relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An advanced degree in a relevant field with at least 15–20 years of leadership experience (private or public sector), in high-risk, high-impact roles making corporate contributions, particularly in highly regulated environments where data utilization is a key attribute or function.
  • Strong leadership skills, management abilities, strategic vision, and strong change management capabilities, supported by excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional ability for strategic thinking and analytical perception in planning and implementing IT strategies.
  • The ability to provide clear direction to enable others to achieve mission critical priorities, lead and champion innovation and change to keep pace with the external environment and conceptualize and turn ideas into actions.
  • The ability to continue, modernize and transform the Fund with technology capabilities and stand-up of the new IT service delivery model, to bring it to maturity, ensuring that the products deliver on its value and impact and staff morale and motivation remains high.
  • Strong management skills and the ability to handle and oversee a complex and diverse IT project portfolio and operations, preferably in a multinational environment within the public and private sectors.
  • Substantial experience in planning and executing IT strategy; and formulating, allocating, and evaluating major policy, programs, and IT modernization projects; experience in environments with very high information security requirements.
  • Deliver major transformational initiatives such as merging enterprise platforms, application consolidation, ERP integration, HCM and CRM implementation, Data Management, etc.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading AI initiatives and projects in corporate settings, familiarity with industry-specific AI solutions, strong business acumen, and an understanding of how AI can drive business value, along with experience in building and managing high-performance AI teams.
  • Extensive prior experience in the private and/or public sector with an impressive track record of being able to work effectively with senior management to develop and implement enterprise architectures and IT strategies that tie IT to the objectives and goals of an organization.
  • Excellent planning, analysis, organization, negotiation in particular, knowledgeable in the implications of evolving business requirements for IT; ability to explain complex IT concepts clearly and effectively; formulate and communicate the business value of IT investments, expenditures, and related resources.
  • An excellent team player with collaboration skills and drive for results for the successful completion of IT programs and projects.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Outstanding interpersonal skills to effectively work with all levels of staff including management, senior staff, junior colleagues, and various IT-related committees.
  • Extensive experience in vendor management and public procurement, with deep knowledge of vendor management evolution, supported by strong negotiation skills.
