GPAF rolled out its first wellness initiative in quarter 3 of year 2024 which aimed at addressing burnout in the workplace, being a key priority following a comprehensive organisational restructure in the year 2023 that aimed to have Greenpeace Africa be fit for purpose and realise its impact.

Objective

Greenpeace is looking for an industrial Psychologist to provide professional psychological support to employees to address personal, professional, and emotional challenges impacting their job performance. The consultant will also provide actionable insights to management based on recurring themes from employee sessions to guide organizational improvement .

Scope of Work
The Consultant will undertake the following activities:

  1. Employee Counseling Sessions
    • Provide one consulting session per week for employees, offering professional and confidential psychological support.
    • Address a variety of challenges, including but not limited to stress management, work-life balance, interpersonal conflicts, and personal issues.
  2. Resource Development and Guidance
    • Offer employees resources and tools for managing challenges effectively (e.g., stress management techniques, communication strategies, coping mechanisms).
    • Provide tailored strategies for personal and professional development.
    • Conduct periodic induction sessions on psychological well-being for new
    • Provide or support the organisation deliver tailored training/workshops/webinars on on employee well-being
  3. Reporting to Management
    • Develop monthly reports summarizing key themes and areas of concern identified during the sessions.
    • Maintain confidentiality by anonymizing employee data in reports while highlighting actionable insights.
    • Suggest interventions or programs that can address common issues and improve overall workplace well-being and performance.
    • Support leadership identify and address psychosocial risks within their teams proactively.

Deliverables

  • Consultation Sessions: Employee Assistance Program (A booking system) for one day of sessions per week, with records of attendance (maintaining anonymity). The sessions spread out in alignment with office operations time zones.
  • Quarterly Report: Detailed report highlighting trends, challenges, and recommendations for organizational improvement.
  • Resource Toolkit: A collection of tools, handouts, or online resources employees can use independently.
  • Workshops/Trainings as agreed with management

Duration
The consultancy will run from February 2025 to December 2025, subject to extension based on need and mutual agreement.

Location
The sessions will be conducted (a combination of both virtual and on site for large group workshops/trainings ) The consultant will liaise with employees and management as needed.

Qualifications
The Consultant must have:

  • Advanced University degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry, or other related mental health disciplines combined with 5 years of relevant experience. Or, a Bachelor’s degree in any of the above disciplines combined with 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Additional certifications in mental health, employee and family assistance programme, or well-being is desired.
  • Relevant licensure or certification in counseling or psychotherapy.
  • Experience providing similar services within the context of international NGOs organizations is desired
  • Experience in developing policies and programmes related to personnel well-being and mental health is required.
  • Ability to deliver the sessions in English and French is a requirement
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess high levels of respect and trustworthiness.
  • Good understanding of African culture and ethical norms

Reporting and Supervision
The Consultant will report directly to Operations Director, tasks managed by the Head of People and Culture, and collaborate with the GPAF Wellness Committee.

Payment Terms
Contingency payment on work delivered; per sessions and reports provided, workshop delivered.

Confidentiality
The Consultant will ensure strict confidentiality of all employee interactions and any data gathered during the consultancy. Breach of confidentiality will result in termination of the contract and legal action.

Evaluation Criteria
Applications will be assessed based on:

  • Relevant qualifications and experience.
  • Proposed approach to fulfilling the objectives.
  • Cost-effectiveness of the proposed service fees.
