Org. Setting and Reporting
The post is located within the Office of Environmental Management and Mineral Resources (OEMMR) at the Headquarters of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) located in Kingston, Jamaica. The International Seabed Authority (ISA) is an international organization established under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 1994 Agreement relating to the Implementation of Part XI of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The ISA is the organization through which States Parties to UNCLOS shall, in accordance with the regime for the seabed and ocean floor and subsoil thereof beyond the limits of national jurisdiction (the Area) established in Part XI and the 1994 Agreement, organize and control activities in the Area, particularly with a view to administering the resources of the Area.
Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance of the Director, OEMMR and the direct supervision of the Database Manager and within delegated authority, the Information Management Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: 1. Support the maintenance of the internal database and file management system. 2. Supports the implementation of the Authority’s data management strategic roadmap and data policies. 3. Respond in person and/or virtually to the needs of internal and external clients experiencing issues related to the Authority’s databases. 4. Assist with the Extraction, Transformation and Loading (ETL) of data in accordance with ISA data management strategic roadmap. 5. Digitize information (hard copy documents, data contained in a variety of formats) into the ISA established format and standard established for the database. 6. Perform regular and ad hoc data quality control checks ensuring completeness, accuracy and relevance of data received. 7. Execute daily checklist of routine maintenance tasks related to data management system and its components; maintain detailed records for compliance monitoring. 8. Create metadata in accordance with ISA data management strategic roadmap to appropriately catalogue data and be able to respond to requests for information and access to relevant files in a timely manner. 9. Ensure compliance with ISA database information security protocols. 10. Perform database backup for electronic data management system in close coordination with the Office of Administrative Services (Communications and Information Technology team). 11. Perform archiving of obsolete data and ensure data storage capacity is optimized as per ISA data and records management policies. 12. Effectively deliver a wide range of data administration tasks ensuring that database systems are kept up to date and accurate. 13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
At least a High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A University Degree or higher in Data Management or related field is desirable.

Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in data, information management, digital data entry, database administration, GIS or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three (3) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server and geographic information systems (GIS) is required. Experience working with taxonomic and geological data is desired Experience in a multinational working environment is desired. Knowledge of geo-database systems, software programming languages and web and web technology is desired. Knowledge of FME Workbench, web programing, Microsoft Excel and powerShell is desired Experience in providing administrative support for senior officials in the UN or comparable organization is desired.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the ISA. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
This position is temporarily available for a duration of 364 days. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the Authority, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment. This position is subject to local recruitment under the ISA staff rule 4.4. Applicants who are nationalities of other ISA Member States are required to be in possession of the right to work and live in Jamaica and currently based in the country or within commuting distance of the ISA offices. A staff member subject to local recruitment shall not be eligible for the allowances or benefits exclusively applicable to international recruitment.
