Job Summary
The School of History, Philosophy, and Religion invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 9-month, fixed term Instructor position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head.
This Instructor role in the School of History, Philosophy, and Religion is a full-time non-tenure track position. The person in this role is intended to have expertise in War, Peace, and Empire in Eastern Europe, Russia, and Eurasia, especially in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The Instructor will teach ten courses each academic year (typically 3-3-4). OSU is on the quarter system, with classes of 10 weeks of instruction. The Instructor will be expected to teach a combination of existing lower-division courses such asOrigins of “The West”( HST 101-103),World History( HST 104-106), and upper-level history courses on one or more of the following topics: World War I and II, Russian/Soviet history, European history, military history, and diplomatic history. Courses will be taught both online and on campus. The Instructor will have the opportunity to design courses that speak to their interests. What You Will Need
PhD in History or closely related field
Demonstrated ability to teach courses at the college/university level (i.e. Origins of “The West” ( HST 101-103), World History ( HST 104-106), and upper-level history courses on one or more of the following topics: World War I and II, Russian/Soviet history, European history, military history, and diplomatic history.)
Record of teaching practices that align with OSU Quality Teaching Framework.
What We Would Like You to Have
Demonstrated doctoral expertise in the history of Eastern Europe, Russia, or Eurasia, especially in the 19th and 20th centuries;
Experience developing and teaching asynchronous distance education courses;
Experience with outreach and engagement, such as participating in events connecting history to contemporary issues;
Experience with public history
