The Collaborative School of the Arts is the education wing of the organization, offering a robust series of training programs, classes and engagement programs in each venue, in schools and throughout the community. 

The Collaborative School of the Arts at Proctors, in Schenectady, New York is seeking an experienced, creative instructor who is a dynamic teacher for their Acting Academy. This instructor position will manage and instruct a summer media-based program for students ages 10 – 14. Through hands-on experiences, instructors teach fundamental pre- and post-production skills while fostering collaboration and passion for storytelling to develop a series of short films to present in an end of program showcase for parents and friends. The instructor will work collaboratively with assistant and staff to ensure projects are engaging and produced by the conclusion of the program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversees the progress of the program to ensure the quality of instructions and delivery of projects.

• Supervisors all Reel Adventure staff members, including Assistant Instructor.

• Provide constructive input on finished projects to encourage growth and improvement.

• Mentor filmmaker students in the development, technical, and creative aspects of production and distribution of short, high-quality digital film projects.

• Works with students and staff in technical and creative aspects of production and post-production.

• Responsible for the development and implementation of innovative and age-appropriate enrichment activities, and projects taking into consideration youth needs and abilities

• Promotes positive character development in all youth.

• Keeps Program Manager informed of pertinent site information, including any challenges in fulfilling responsibilities

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in media and working with youth required

• Passion for Collaborative School of the Arts at Proctors mission and youth development.

• Teaching and management experience preferred

• Prior work experience with diverse youth populations of varying racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.

• Proficiency in all stages of production using applicable technologies, including Digital Media Production Equipment. Film Making, Adobe Premiere, and the Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, working ON iMacs, DSLR Camera, and Motion Graphic – a plus.

• Ability to work well with 10-14 aged students with a wide range of skill levels.

• Responsible for supervising students at all times while in the program

• Artists are to comply with the teaching handbook provided.

• Artists shall develop a lesson plan/outline that encourages creativity and submit it to the Programs Manager before starting the program.

• Responsible and professional conduct that serves as role model to staff and youth

• Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines

PAY RATE

• A stipend of $2,500.00, is to be paid by the end of the program.
