Instructor, Power Plant Engineering (Part-Time)

• Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
• Manage the classroom/laboratory.
• Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
• Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
• Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
• Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
• Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
• Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
• Support student organizations and activities.
• Develop relationships with business and industry.
• Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
• Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:

• Requires a Technical Diploma, or higher, in Power Plant Engineering or a related field which includes Stationary Engineering and/or Industrial Maintenance with a minimum of at least five (5) years or equivalent (10,000 hours) of relevant work experience as a Stationary Engineer, Boiler Operators, or in Industrial Maintenance.

OR

• High School diploma AND an American Society of Power Engineer (ASOPE) Facility Operating Second Class License or higher with a minimum of at least seven (7) years or equivalent (14,000 hours) of relevant work experience as a Stationary Engineer, Boiler Operators, or in Industrial Maintenance.

In addition, one of the following must be met:

• At least two (2) years of the relevant experience must have occurred in the last five years.

OR

• At least two (2) of the relevant experience has been teaching Stationary Engineering or Boiler Operator coursework at a post-secondary level in the last five years.

REQUIRED Licensure requirement:

• ASOPE or higher with both the High School and/or Technical Diploma

• Online Information Management Systems – Experience with Self-Service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters
• Blackboard Ultra – Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course – management systems
• Technology-based Instruction – Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology
• Emerging Technologies – Experience with emerging technologies (eg. social networking applications)

Start Date
This position supports the Manufacturing, Construction, and Transportation Pathway and is available to start in the Spring Semester (January 2026).
Hours
This position is a .5 FTE the number of hours worked per week will vary based on course load. Hours, location, and modality are based on enrollment and departmental need. Work is conducted during scheduled course hours, Monday – Friday.

Salary: Beginning in the fall of 2024 the starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable unless market conditions dictate otherwise.
