Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD) is seeking qualified interns for a maximum internship of six months, depending on the needs of UNRCPD and the willingness of the applicant. UNRCPD is part of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs and is located in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Regional Centre assists countries in Asia and the Pacific in achieving their peace, security, and disarmament goals by providing substantive support, coordinating activities at sub-regional, regional, and international levels, and sharing information on global and regional initiatives. In accordance with its mandate, UNRCPD provides countries in the region, upon request, with aid and support for implementing international agreements aimed at preventing and combating the illegal flow of conventional arms, promoting dialogue and confidence-building on global and regional arms control, disarmament, and non-proliferation issues, addressing challenges to peace and security by engaging women and youth, and promoting peace and disarmament education. To this end, the Regional Centre organizes seminars, workshops, and training sessions. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a professional staff member in the Centre to whom they are assigned. The incumbent reports to the Director of UNRCPD. In this regard, the intern will provide support in one or more of UNRCPD’s key programmatic areas: 1. Weapons of Mass Destruction 2. Conventional Arms and Ammunition 3. Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Education 4. Cross-Cutting Issues – Gender, Youth, and Emerging Technologies & Security Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, assigned tasks, and the duration of the internship. Interns may undertake the following duties, including but not limited to: • Assisting the Office in strategic communication and public outreach. • Providing support in developing materials to enhance ODA’s visibility. • Contributing to the design and drafting of communication materials, such as brochures, fact sheets, and newsletters. • Supporting the filming and production of promotional videos. • Helping create digital media content for the Office’s website and social media platforms. • Performing any other duties as requested by the supervisor. Applicants with basic skills in Adobe tools or relevant design software, or experience in photography or videography, are highly encouraged to apply. However, access to or experience with these programs is not a requirement for application.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
