Job description
The EWMC – Residential Transfer Station – Equipment Operator II is responsible for operating heavy machinery to process materials for disposal and transport, load and unload materials, and use multiple attachments for outdoor operations, including the construction of building material bunkers, snow removal and other related activities. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and safe handling of waste materials within the Edmonton Waste Management Centre (EWMC).What will you be doing?
- Operate front end loaders to transport materials within the transfer station site
- Responsible for the safe productive operation of multiple pieces of equipment
- Assist with the organization and management of waste materials to maximize space efficiency
- Collaborate with team members to ensure the smooth flow of operations and timely completion of tasks
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of operational areas, including sweeping, removing debris and snow removal
- Follow established procedures for the safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials
- Assist with other duties as assigned by supervisors to support the overall operation of EWMC – Outside Operations
- Identify, troubleshoot and report any and all equipment mechanical issues
- Ensure the project abides by any applicable City of Edmonton Occupational Health & Safety Standards and Guidelines. These documents outline OHS accountability at all levels of the organization relative to legislative OHS requirements
Qualifications
- Completion of the tenth (10th) school grade supplemented by two years experience operating mobile equipment. Pass and maintain internal competency training
- 2 years experience operating mobile equipment
Skills Required for Success:
- Good equipment knowledge
- Mechanically inclined
- Experience working in a waste management or recycling facility
- Experience with handling, transport and disposal of hazardous materials an asset
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor in various weather conditions
- Safety oriented
- Obtain and maintain relevant certifications for operating heavy machinery, and participate in ongoing training and evaluation programs to enhance skills and ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- TDG and WHMIS is an asset
- Positive outlook with an ability to work effectively in a team environment
