Tests/interviews in connection to this selection procedure will take place approximately 3 to 4 weeks after the deadline for applications. Applicants are kindly requested to plan their availability during this period accordingly, in case they are short-listed.
Selected candidates will be expected to report for duty approximately two to three months after receiving an offer of employment at the latest.
This selection exercise may be used to generate a reserve list of suitable candidates that may be used to address Organization”s similar staffing needs in the future.
SUMMARY OF THE ASSIGNED DUTIES, INCLUDING GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE POST
The Travel Health Specialist Nurse (THSN) is part of the Medical Services Unit (MSU) and is responsible for advising officials of the Organization on health-related aspects pertaining to travel and missions. The THSN operates under the responsibility and delegation of the Head of the Medical Services Unit and in coordination with other team members.
In all activities, THSN stays abreast of the latest travel health guidelines, recommendations, and outbreak alerts to provide accurate and evidence-based advice to travelers.
In all activities, THSN is bound by a duty of confidentiality and professional secrecy.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ACTIVITIES
OBJECTIVE 1/Mission 1 – Travel Health Consultations
Be responsible for assessing official’s health (e.g. general health status, any health conditions that could potentially be affected by travel, ongoing medicinal treatments, immunization, allergies), evaluating risks associated with missions, and providing appropriate recommendations on vaccination or preventive treatment.
May refer the staff member to the Organization’s doctor or to an external center specializing in vaccination and travel medicine.
OBJECTIVE 2/Mission 2 – Vaccinations
Recommend vaccines in compliance with the established procedures and in adherence to INTERPOL’s vaccination policy.
Administer vaccines prescribed by the doctor of the Organization.
OBJECTIVE 3/Mission 3- Travel Health Resources Development
Develop and update INTERPOL-specific informational tools by creating materials tailored to the Organization’s requirements.
Propose communication messages to improve understanding of travel health requirements.
Keep abreast of developments linked to travel health.
OBJECTIVE 4/Mission 4 – Travel Health Education
Develop, deliver individual or group-based education activities and training modules on travel health, including risks, preventive measures, and appropriate behaviors during travel and upon return.
Assess the impact of the educational activities delivered.
Review international best practices to propose continuous improvement of MSU processes related to missions.
OBJECTIVE 5/Mission 5 – Epidemiological Monitoring
Monitor the evolution of most common travel related infectious diseases and outbreaks using various sources of information.
Analyze impact on INTERPOL premises or staff.
Tailor the advice to travelers depending on health risks and evolving outbreaks
OBJECTIVE 6/Mission 6 – Miscellaneous
Ensure data entry in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Analyze and follow up Collected Data for Collective Purposes with a public health perspective.
May be required to occasionally travel to conferences, workshops, or other events.
Perform any other duties as required by the hierarchy.

Minimum 2 years of experience in nursing, with a focus on travel health, infectious diseases, and/or public health.
