Invitation to Apply for Excellent Youth Science Fund Project (Overseas)

【Introduction】

Zheiiang University (ZJU), recognized both domestically and internationally, stands out as a comprehensive and research-oriented institution, celebrated for its innovative approach and unique characteristics. The university boasts a diverse array of disciplines, including but not limited to philosophy, economics, and medicine. ZJU has earned high esteem in the academic community, reflected by its notable positions in various global university rankings. Specifically, in the QS World University Rankings 2024, ZJU is ranked 44th, while in the QS Asian University Rankings 2024, it achieves the 6th position. Moreover, the university holds a prestigious 3rd place in China according to the 2023 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), and ranks 33rd globally in the ARWU World Rankings.

The International School of Medicine, Zhejiang University (ISM) operates as a subsidiary college under the administration of Zhejiang University. It is poised to evolve into a premier institution for higher medical education, aligned with the national “Belt and Road” initiative. The school is led by Dean Huang Hefeng, an esteemed academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a renowned expert in reproductive medicine. There are currently over 700 students, including nearly 200 undergraduate students and over 500 graduate students, from 49 countries including China, the United States, Italy, Brazil, Thailand, and Zambia,etc.

The International Institutes of Medicine, Zhejiang University (IIM) is under the jurisdiction of the International School Medical  for management and functions as the “Belt and Road” international cooperation base for the National Center of Technology Innovation in Biopharmaceuticals, has been recognized as one of the first batch of new provincial-level R&D institutions in Zhejiang Province, the Zhejiang Engineering Research Center for Future Pathology and Postdoctoral Workstations. It has established an international and cutting-edge research team and developed several specialized centers, including those for Reproductive, RNA, Oncology, Regeneration and Aging, Metabolic,Genomics,Membrane receptors and Brain Medicine. Committed to high-level clinical translation and groundbreaking multidisciplinary collaboration, IIM is at the forefront of advancing medical research and practice.

The International School of Medicine and the International Institutes of Medicine at Zhejiang University, together with the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine (ZJU4H), form a strategic alliance to build a world-class international medical center. ZJU4H is a directly affiliated hospital of Zhejiang University and a provincial comprehensive three-A hospital. The hospital is located in Yiwu, central Zhejiang Province and opened in October 2014. Ranked 77th in the performance appraisal of third-level public hospitals in 2022, and ranked A+ for four consecutive years in the national examination, ranking in the top 5% in the country.

Focusing on addressing national strategic priorities and implementing the “double first-class” initiatives based on the century-old characteristics of Zhejiang University, this tripartite model is designed to establish an internationally recognized, innovative, and research-driven institute for advanced medical education. The primary goal of this alliance is to explore how local internationalization can spur innovation in medical science. It also seeks to embark on a novel educational journey that prioritizes global engagement and collaboration.

【Project Application】

In order to attract excellent young scholars from overseas to work in China. the National Natural Science Foundation of China has set up the National Natural Science Fund for Excellent Youth Science Fund Project (Overseas) since 2021.

We sincerely invite excellent young scholars worldwide to apply for the National Natural Science Fund for Excellent Youth Science Fund Project (Overseas) based on International School of Medicine, Zhejiang University. Zhejiang University and our institute will provide a good research environment and development platform, as well as a competitive salary.

1.Requirements

(1)Abide by the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China, have good scientific ethics, and consciously practice the spirit of scientists in the new era.

(2)Born after January 1, 1985.

(3)Have obtained a doctoral degree.

(4)The applicant should generally obtain formal teaching or research positions in overseas universities, scientific research institutions or research & development institution of enterprise, and have worked continuously for more than 36 months before April 15, 2025. For those who have obtained a doctoral degree overseas and have outstanding performance, the requirements on working years can be relaxed appropriately.

(5)The applicant should have achieved scientific research technical achievements recognized by peer experts in the field of life science or medicine, and have the potential to become an academic leader or outstanding talent in the field.

(6)The applicant has not yet returned/come to China for full-time work,or returned/came to China for work after January 1,2024. The applicant must quit his/her overseas job and return/come to China to work full-time for at least3 years after receiving the fund.

2.Declaration

(1)Qualified applicants sign a work contract or an intention agreement with us in accordance with the requirements of the project guide, log into the information system after February 1, 2025, and fill the Application Form of National Natural Science Foundation for Excellent Youth Science Fund Project (Overseas) online (hereinafter referred to as the application form). The applicant is responsible for the authenticity of the application materials submitted.

(2)The applicant shall fill the application form online in simplified Chinese or English according to the instructions, and upload attachments with other materials.

(3)Excellent Youth Science Fund Project (overseas) adopts paperless application method. Applicant submit electronic application, attachments and impartiality commitment documents to us online, which will be reviewed and submitted to the NSFC.

(4)The deadline for application is April 15, 2025.

3.Benefits

(1)Academic Environment: Share the first-class academic reputation, advanced research platform, outstanding academic ecology and open research environment of Zhejiang University.

(2)Remuneration: Annual salary may exceed l million RMB, applicants can enjoy the corresponding local government subsidies and settlement subsidies based on talent categories.

(3)Scientific Research Fund: Starting funds may exceed 10 million RMB based on NSFC funding, negotiable based on actual demands, no upper limit.

(4)Housing: One assignment of talent housing can be purchased at a preferential policy price, and one assignment of expert apartment can be provided during the transition period.

(5)Other Support: Appointed as ZJU 100 Young Professor: eligibility for doctoral enrollment, guarantee of enrollment quota of more than 6 doctoral students or postdoctoral fellows for the first three years.
