Physiotherapist IPU and Outpatients (Band 6 position or Developing role Band 5 to Band 6 considered)

  • Location: Grove House, St Albans
  • Salary: Rennie Grove Peace Band 6- £37,338 – £44,962per annum (pro rata) Or be considered for a developing role at Rennie Grove Peace Band 5: £29,970 – £36,483 per annum (pro rata)
  • Hours: 30 – 37.5hours per week (part-time considered)

Main duties of the jobThe role of Physiotherapist (IPU and Outpatients) is in place to undertake holistic physiotherapy assessment and treatment of patients with complex, life limiting illness as an autonomous practitioner with support from the Senior Physiotherapist.We are looking for a physiotherapist who can contribute to patient information groups and courses, e.g. advanced care planning course, breathlessness groups, exercise groups and Living Well. Someone who can contribute to the effective provision of rehabilitation and therapy support within Rennie Grove Peace as a member of the Therapies team with the support of senior physiotherapy colleagues.About usRennie Grove Peace Hospice Care started formally operating in July 2023, through the merger of two successful organisations, Rennie Grove Hospice Care and Peace Hospice Care.   • Undertake comprehensive physiotherapy assessment and implementation of therapy intervention for patients with progressive and life-threatening diseases as an autonomous practitioner. This includes using analytical skills, clinical reasoning, and the use of appropriate outcome measures.
  • Provide high quality physiotherapy input to optimise non-pharmacological management of symptoms including breathlessness and pain.
  • Be a source of expertise, advocating non-pharmacological approaches to symptom control within the interdisciplinary team.
  • Develop an understanding of other symptom specific programs such as the advanced care planning course.
  • Identify patients with complex clinical needs and draw upon support from the senior physiotherapist to ensure these are best managed.
  • Acting as a Rennie Grove Peace ambassador within the community.
  • Be a source of physiotherapy expertise and champion rehabilitative palliative care practice across the interdisciplinary team providing advice on managing the patients functional ability and guide discharge planning.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential

  • Degree or diploma in Physiotherapy, HCPC registration.

Additional CriteriaEssential

  • Advanced communication skills or willingness to work towards.
  • Experience in a wide range of core clinical areas including Respiratory/Neurology/Medical/MSK/community.
  • Evidence of CPD and reflective practice.
  • Awareness of NSFs/ Local and National initiatives relating to palliative care.
  • Critical appraisal skills
  • A good understanding of technology with a working knowledge of Microsoft office packages ie Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • To ensure that patient documentation is completed accurately using SystemOne and paper records in accordance with professional standards, hospice policy and legal requirements.
  • Commitment to the development and pursuit of palliative care knowledge.
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and to build good working relationships.
  • Good administrative, organisational and record keeping skills and able to work with good attention to detail.
  • Apply a holistic approach to patient care and able to discuss with senior physiotherapist ongoing referrals/ complex patients.
  • Sensitivity and understanding to the needs of the volunteers and customers, many of whom may have experienced Rennie Grove Peace services or be bereaved themselves.

  • Member of the CSP- Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Previous experience and knowledge of working within the field of palliative care.
