IT Infrastructure Project Manager

The IT Infrastructure Project Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of IT and Telecommunications support for departmental relocations, space renovations, and new construction projects. This position ensures technology services and end-user devices are properly assessed to meet evolving space and operational requirements. Serving as a key liaison between IT, Telecommunications, Facilities, end-user departments, and business partners, this role ensures move-related initiatives are aligned with technology standards, timelines, and organizational objectives. This position assists Information Technology clients and participates in Information Technology teams to further the development of the information “commons” at the School of Medicine.

95% Administration

1. Manage and coordinate cross-functional tasks and responsibilities among internal teams and school leadership, including IT/Telecom, Telehealth, Service Desk, Field Technicians, Networking, System Administration, Facilities, and Public Safety.

3. Coordinate and participate in strategic project planning meetings to define project scope, resource needs, design feasibility, and responsibilities across all stakeholders.
4. Facilitate communication and collaboration across organizational leadership to support strategic initiatives and operational efficiency.
5. Communicate project expectations, service availability, and transition timelines clearly to SOM and SIU HC departments, IT stakeholders, and business partners.
6. Oversee prioritization and delegation of tasks to ensure effective resource utilization and timely resolution of issues. Track task progress and provide regular status updates to project stakeholders, escalating risks or delays as necessary.
7. Support change management efforts by aligning technical teams and leadership on updates, deployments, and infrastructure changes.
8. Manage daily operations of the IT Technical Moves team, including adjusting daily coverage levels for infrastructure project activities. Determine staffing needs for IT Technical Moves team.
9. Supervise IT Technical Moves and Life Cycle teams; responsible for recruitment, promotions, separations, training, workloads, and evaluations. Assign tasks to be completed. Monitor progress of assigned tasks and make assignment adjustments as necessary. Develop internal standard operating procedures and processes within Information Technology for technical support personnel.
10. Manage, create, and maintain detailed project documentation, including costs, site assessments, technical specifications, resource allocation plans, and post-project evaluations.
11. Conduct pre-move site evaluations to verify infrastructure readiness, including data, voice, and power requirements.
12. Manage and monitor technology moves, installations, and decommissions during transition events to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures. Oversee on-site technology and telecommunications setup during moves, to ensure accuracy of end-user device layouts, network connectivity, and voice services.
13. Coordinate procurement orders and vendor tasks related to telecommunications and infrastructure installations.
14. Assist with troubleshooting and validation of installed equipment and services before, during, and after the move.
15. Oversee technical support coverage to minimize disruption to end-users during transition periods.
16. Coordinate Telecommunications project billing, ensuring accurate allocation of costs.
17. Serve as the primary point of contact for move-related technology coordination, ensuring all impacted parties are informed of schedules, dependencies, and next steps.
18. Assist with development of long and short-term strategic plans for School of Medicine technology.
19. Other duties as assigned.

5% Training and Process Improvement

1. Manage the continuous improvement of relocation procedures, documentation templates, and technical standards
2. Assist with providing end-user guidance on requesting IT services and reporting issues using the organization’s ticketing system.

Minimum Qualifications

Credentials to be verified.

1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Any one or any combination totaling 5 years (60 months) from the following categories:

1. College course work which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, IT Systems, Business Management, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
   • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
   • Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
   • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
   • Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
2. Progressively more responsible work experience in IT-related profession.
3. Two (2) years of work experience in an IT environment including at least one (1) year of experience managing or leading projects. Experience can be in conjunction with requirement #2.
4. The incumbent must possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License and have an automobile to carry out the duties of this position.
