Job description

Are you an outstanding administrator with a passion for great customer service? Do you enjoy working at pace on priority projects? If the answer is yes, you could be exactly who we’re looking for to join our dynamic operational team.

We’re looking for a Selection Exercise Support Officer to help us deliver high quality recruitment campaigns at pace. As an independent public body, the Judicial Appointments Commission is responsible for designing, planning, and running recruitment campaigns to select judges in the courts and tribunals, up to and including the High Court, as well as non-legal tribunal members. You can read more about our work on our website: http://judicialappointments.gov.uk

With a new recruitment campaign launched every couple of weeks, and statutory responsibilities to make sure we select candidates on merit and through fair and open competition, it’s essential that our processes are robust, inclusive, and attractive to candidates from the widest possible backgrounds.

Our Selection Exercise Support Officers play a pivotal role in helping us to achieve that. As the first point of contact for our applicants, our Selection Exercise Support Officers help applicants to navigate our processes, answering questions and supporting them throughout each stage of our recruitment campaigns. They work closely with our Selection Exercise Managers to provide excellent administrative support, so the organisation can deliver effective, efficient, and fair selection processes.

The Role

We are looking for a Selection Exercise Support Officer (EO grade) to join our busy and dynamic operations team and help us deliver our challenging programme of judicial selection activity.

You will work as part of our operations team, providing excellent administrative support to colleagues and candidates, gathering, and processing data, answering candidate queries, and preparing our selection day materials. You will also support candidates attending both remote and in person selection days, using your excellent IT and communication skills to ensure the smooth running of selection activity.

We are looking for colleagues who can work flexibly in an organisation that delivers an interesting and challenging selection exercise programme of judicial recruitment. You will need to be able to use Google Drive, Microsoft Teams, Word, Outlook, and Excel to a good standard, and be organised and efficient. An ability to communicate well with applicants, selection panel members (including senior judges) and to work collaboratively with colleagues will also be important.

Main responsibilities

  • Supporting the Selection Exercise Team in the planning and running of judicial selection exercises by providing administrative support.
  • Supporting candidates during remote and face to face selection days.
  • Responding to enquiries by email and telephone helping candidates during their remote selection interviews (using MS Teams) or face-to-face interviews.
  • Accurately collecting statistical information and reporting on this at key stages throughout the selection exercise process.
  • Assisting with the planning and delivery of selection activity – this may include liaising with selection panel members and external contractors, either in person or remotely.
  • General administrative duties, including accurate record management and preparing Word and Excel documents, on Google Drive and other storage drives, using Outlook for diary management and working with other digital tools and on our digital platform.

The duties/responsibilities listed above describe the post as it is at present and is not intended to be exhaustive. The job holder is expected to accept reasonable alterations and additional tasks of a similar level that may be necessary.

Essential criteria

  • Effective organisational skills to provide high quality support and meet tight deadlines.
  • The ability to work without supervision, on your own initiative.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Experience and confidence in using a range of digital tools including Microsoft Teams, Excel Spreadsheets and Google Drive.
