MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

What will you be doing on the apprenticeship?

As a Junior Production Coordinator Apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience in how content creation comes together, from concept to reaching the audience, in TV/ Audio or content for online. You will learn a wide range of skills which may include preparing for shoots or live radio studios and recordings; coordinating transport; booking kit and crews; issuing information the teams need via ‘call sheets’; assisting with the management of budgets and assisting with coordinating staff training; helping on the studio floor, in the TV gallery or on the BBC’s radio stations such as Radio 1, 1Xtra or Asian Network and ensuring that everyone gets paid! All the while you’ll be learning best practice from expert BBC production management teams – making sure everyone has everything they need to film/record events; checking rules and regulations so that crews/teams can work safely and ensuring everything is documented, filed and in line with privacy and licensing policies.

What will you be studying?

You’ll study for your industry recognised apprenticeship qualification, learning both on the job at the BBC and off the job with our chosen education provider. The academic study involves attending instructor-led workshops; tutorial sessions; presentations and group work. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will be asked to gather a portfolio of evidence and work on an End Point Assessment that demonstrates your learning, while working towards a level 4 apprenticeship qualification. This apprenticeship will give you a thorough knowledge and understanding of what it is like to work in Production Management and the media industry, which you can then utilise during your time at the BBC and afterwards in the wider industry.

Where could the role take you?

On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will be able to apply for job roles such as a Production Management Assistant, Production Secretary or Production Coordinator both inside and outside of the BBC. 

This scheme starts in September 2025, and you will be on a fixed term contract which means your contract is for the duration of the apprenticeship only. The duration of this scheme is 17-months.

BBC Studios – Factual – Documentary

The BBC Studios Documentary Unit works across three bases in Cardiff, London and Salford. The Unit focuses on reputational, access-driven documentaries, compelling human stories and constructed factual programming. Powerful storytelling is at the heart of what we do. Our output ranges across The Met, Sarah Everard; The Search for Justice, Amol Rajan Interviews, Rip Off Britain, Crimewatch Live, Undercover Police: Hunting the Paedophiles, Scam Interceptors and more. The successful candidate will ideally have a passion for Documentary and factual journalism. You will learn to complete Production Management duties across a variety of productions and be an integral part of our programme-making teams. 

Our current flagship productions are:

Rip Off Britain is the consumer-affairs powerhouse of the BBC Daytime schedule, regularly gaining 1.2m viewers and more than a 30% share of the audience. It mixes incisive consumer investigations, compelling human stories and invaluable advice; it holds to account the companies getting things wrong, leaving people out of pocket, or failing to make things easier for their customers. Last year we refreshed and relaunched the familiar Rip Off Britain format, and it’s been a resounding hit with the audience.

The One Show Factual production team’s main hub is in Salford, producing 120 Current Affairs, Arts and Special Projects films for The One Show. Our bright, energetic team has continued to supply premium quality, highly creative arts and special projects films to The One Show for the past three years. We produce content 52 weeks of the year and have a proven track record of both responding to quick turnaround stories and developing imaginative original ideas for arts films that are relatable and put people at the heart of every film.

The Production Management Assistant provides administrative support to the production team/s, in order to ensure the smooth and efficient running of productions. All of our production management colleagues are ‘agile workers’ and our expectation is that you will work an average of 2-3 days per week in the BBC buildings, and at times this will increase to 5 days in the office per week during busier production periods. The busy Topical teams have crews travelling to all points of the UK on a daily basis to hunt down the latest stories and film them for Rip Off Britain and The One Show. You’ll work in partnership with editorial colleagues to deliver outstanding and distinctive content within operational and financial constraints. You’ll also provide administrative and specialist support using your production management skills, knowledge and experience. Contributing to the production management community, you’ll support the drive for continuous improvement throughout the production and be part of a creative and collaborative culture. By the end of the apprenticeship, you will have gained the skills to confidently apply for Production Management Assistant roles. The successful candidate will be a good communicator, self-motivated, enthusiastic and solution focused.

• Be aged 18 or over when the apprenticeship starts in September 2025

• Be eligible to work in the UK full time for the duration of the apprenticeship contract. 
• Not currently taking part in an apprenticeship scheme supported by the BBC or another organisation.
