KOH Operator SSBO

SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 1:30pm – 10:00pm

MISSION:

To chemically remove ceramic core material from castings and clean castings surfaces in order to meet customer specifications. To accurately prepare, operate and maintain pressure vessels (autoclaves) used for chemical leaching of all castings and revert metal.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Casting Preparation

Objective: to inspect and stage castings prior to chemical leaching, which may require working with hazardous waste.

Essential Job Functions:

• Reviews Technique Cards and paperwork.
• Visually inspects castings for core material other contaminants; may reject parts that do not meet SOP guidelines and reroute for cleaning.
• Loading baskets by, reviewing production schedule, staging castings in autoclave room, hoisting castings into vessel baskets.

Leaching Autoclave Preparation

Objective: to take samples of chemical holding tanks, make concentration adjustments, neutralize, and pump chemicals prior to the autoclave cycle to assure conformance to process control specifications.

Essential Job Functions:

• Performs lab analysis to determine if chemical concentration is within specification ranges.
• Dilutes chemical holding tanks with water in order to ensure chemistry meets specifications.
• Checks operations of circulation pumps and valve gaskets; checks for leaks; troubleshoots and reviews pumping diagrams and work instructions if needed.
• Pumps spent tank solutions into totes and stages them to be moved to a neutralization facility; cleans and rinses work area.

Autoclave Operation

Objective: to stage castings in the pressure vessel; prepare lid surface for operation; and use an HMI to operate the autoclave, adhering to specific procedures and follow all work instructions.

Essential Job Functions:

• Place castings in the pressure vessel using baskets and hoists; Cleans and inspects lid seal and changes when necessary.
• Interacts with HMI to operate the pressure vessel following specific procedures and instructions.
• Monitors data and trends to ensure specific procedures and instructions are being met.
• Removes castings, rinses, dries borescopes, and inspects castings.
• Transfer castings to pallets and prepare paperwork.
• Completes logs and records, including calculations, chemical additions/ dilutions, and yield.
• Meets all production and quality standards.

Safety

Objective: to take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.

NOTE: for job positions that require respiratory protection (more than a filtering face piece – dust mask):

In compliance with the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division Personal Protective Equipment standard for Respiratory Protection, OAR 437, Div. 2/I 1910.134 and Oregon Health Division Rules for the Control of Radiation, OAR 333. Div. 120 (333-120-300 through 330), certain tasks within this job position require/may require the use of a NIOSH-approved respirator. An individual will not be assigned to these tasks if the person is not able to work under these conditions. Respirator selection will be based on the work performed, exposure information, duration of use and any other relevant factors. If a tight-fitting respirator is required, facial hair, temple pieces on glasses or other items that interfere with the face-to-face piece seal of the respirator are not permitted.

Essential Job Functions:

• Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
• Safely operates all equipment and tools.
• Identifies and reports safety problems.
• Wears personal protective equipment, including respirators during acid bath additions.
• Job duties may include limited management of hazardous waste generated in the chemical mill process. This may include labeling, closing, and transferring hazardous waste containers to the facility’s hazardous waste storage location. Comprehensive hazardous waste training will be required annually for personnel who engage in hazardous waste management activities.
• Deer Creek and SSBO Only: this position requires training and qualification in all Shell Removal Operator functions and will require performing those functions based on business needs.

OTHER (MARGINAL) ACCOUNTABILITIES

TRAINING

• Training is provided on the job.
• PCC’s Forklift Driving Safety Training must be completed.
• PCC’s Hazardous Chemical Safety Training must be completed.
• Completion of a basic chemistry course preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

Three to six months’ prior chemical handling experience ceramic core and shell removal, and previous chemistry courses are all preferred.

OR

An equivalent combination of classroom training and work experience.

• Ability to read, interpret and follow instructions on safety manuals, Process Control Procedures, Technique Cards, and bath analysis.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and decimals)
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
