Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a Lab Authorization Specialist for our office located in Norfolk.

Responsibilities
- Dedicated to obtaining lab authorizations/scheduling for both in house and outside lab tests and genetic testing for entire practice.
- Schedules physician referrals and/or outside testing and labs as directed by physician.
- Obtains necessary insurance authorization.
- Communicates to patients the type of test, any necessary prep, and date/time/location of appointment.
- Follows up on all tests to ensure completion prior to next visit with physician.
- Researches and responds to routine and non-routine inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five years medical office experience preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be present at the employee site during regularly scheduled business hours and regularly required to sit or stand and talk or hear. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment may include exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment. Work will involve in-person interaction with co-workers and management and/or clients. Work may require minimal travel by automobile to office sites.
