As a part-time laborer at a Missouri Veterans Homes you will help provide maintenance and labor services to the buildings, equipment systems, and grounds as required for the organizations’ operation in a safe, timely and most economical manner. This position also helps operate heavy machinery including zero turn mowers and trimmers backhoe, snow blade and front loader.

Job Description Summary:
- Maintain appearance of entrance to facility. Remove trash/debris from grounds. Clean parking lots and grounds
- Assist maintenance or housekeeping departments in off season
- Maintain cemetery and headstones if applicable
- Operate various powered equipment (lawn tractor, snow blower, etc.) in the performance of assigned tasks; repair and maintain tools and equipment used
- Participate in the maintenance of institutional grounds, plants watering trees, grass, flowers, and shrubs. Mow and trim lawns and hedges; weed flower beds, spray lawn, shrubs and trees with fertilizer and insecticide. Maintain ditches, curbs, and gutters by keeping free of grass, weeds, etc. Trim trees and remove dead debris
- Lift and move objects and supplies, climb ladders, work at high levels (30 feet or more) and uses forklifts, power tools, motorized hydraulic jacks or related equipment
- Possess a valid Driver’s License from Missouri or state of residence and, as necessary, drive during day and/or nighttime hours both in town and on the highway
- Work outdoors in extreme heat or cold temperatures
- Respond to internal and external disasters such as fires, tornados, etc. in order to protect resident, staff and property
- Stand for extended periods while completing assigned tasks
- Maintain lawn furniture as needed
- Maintain lawn equipment
- Adhere to infection control procedures as trained
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- One year of experience performing manual and semi-skilled work in building maintenance or construction, equipment maintenance or repair, heating or power plant operation and maintenance or in related work; and completion of the eighth school grade
