(LEAD) Maintenance Carpenter – Hunter Army Airfield – Savannah, Georgia
SUMMARY
This position oversees the work of others and performs a variety of carpentry construction, maintenance, and/or repair activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• May plan and lay out work from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal instructions.
• May perform work using a variety of carpentry hand tools, portable power tools, and standard measuring instruments.
• Replaces electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors.
• May ensure accurate computations relating to dimensions of work and selects appropriate materials.
• May perform various skilled tasks in building maintenance, repair, alterations, and remodeling.
• May perform spot painting, and replacement of paneling, counter tops, walls, etc.
• May examine locking mechanism and install new unit or disassemble unit and replaces work tumblers, springs and other parts or repair them by filing, drilling, chiseling, and grinding. 
• Sets up schedules and ensures appropriate coverage for shifts and assignments.
• Monitors work and advises supervisor and/or management of work force changes that may affect completion of assigned work.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.

education and/or experience

• Minimum requirements for this position include a High School Diploma or equivalent GED plus a minimum of three (3) years carpentry maintenance, masonry, and roofing experience. Previous supervisory or lead work is preferred. Must be able to obtain security clearance for use of government computer.  A valid Georgia Driver’s License and ability to maintain military gate pass access are required. Experience responding to and completing repairs on Demand Maintenance Orders (DMOs).

Must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, managers, and staff members.  Ability to write reports.  Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, fellow employees, and customers.  Ability to oversee the work of others.
REASONING ABILITY
Must be able to read and interpret various information to ensure procedures are followed. 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS 
The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.   The employee may occasionally be required to lift more than 50 pounds.  The employee must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
Work environment will require on-call rotation.  The employee may be exposed to noise, dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold, heat, and inclement weather.  The work may require the use of protective devices, such as respirators, masks, goggles, and/or gloves.
