Primary Purpose of Department

The mission of the Turner School of Accountancy, within the Belk College of Business, is to discover and disseminate knowledge essential to the practice of accounting. We prepare students for careers in professional accounting and business, seeking to foster appreciation for knowledge, intellectual growth and dedication to service. We engage in research that explores accounting theory, policy and practice. In strategic partnership with the greater Charlotte business community, we seek to prepare our students to become leaders who think critically and possess professional expertise, global awareness, and a commitment to ethical behavior.

The Turner School of Accountancy offers programs for students at various stages of their professional accounting careers. Our programs provide conceptual and technical knowledge in the accounting and business areas, serving as a foundation for accounting career development. The Belk College’s undergraduate accounting program is accredited by AACSB International, which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and by the Council on Post-Secondary Accreditation as the sole accrediting agency for baccalaureate degree programs in accounting. Graduates find a wide range of professional careers in public practice, industry, financial institutions, government and non-profit organizations.

Description of Work

Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.

Teaching – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Turner School of Accountancy in the Belk College of Business at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking to fill a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position in Accounting, for an August 2025 start date. This position is full-time and non-tenure track. Candidates should be able to educate students in various accounting courses including either financial accounting or accounting information systems and one or more of the following: managerial, auditing and tax. Prior teaching experience, especially in large classroom settings, is preferred. The teaching load is four courses per semester. In addition to the teaching responsibilities, qualified candidates must be prepared to provide leadership in student organizations, serve on committees, and engage in sufficient professional activities to maintain currency in the field.

Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience

This position requires candidates to possess at least a Master’s degree in accounting, or MBA with concentration in accounting with a focus on financial accounting, managerial accounting, or tax, and with at least 18 hours of graduate accounting coursework. Individuals selected for this position will be expected to meet, and maintain, professional and/or academic qualifications as defined in the Academic HR Procedures Handbook at this link. CPA or CMA preferred.
