What’s the job?

Drive innovation in teaching and research at Torrens University.

Torrens University is expanding its suite of contemporary Information Technology programs, complementing our established Software Engineering courses. We are seeking a dynamic Lecturer in Information Technology to join our Design and Creative Technology Faculty, where IT converges with digital media, AI, and smart technologies. 

In this role, you will: 

  • Deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. 
  • Engage in research and scholarship, with opportunities to supervise PhD candidates. 
  • Support students beyond class hours and contribute to course development. 
  • Take on additional responsibilities such as subject leadership, academic project coordination, or industry engagement.

We’re looking for someone with a strong IT background, ideally with research interests at the intersection of IT and creative disciplines. A PhD is preferred, along with a growing research profile demonstrated through publications, grants, or industry collaborations.

Key responsibilities are listed below but are not limited to: 

Teaching/Learning Facilitation 

  • Deliver lectures, seminars, forums, workshops/practical sessions and tutorials, both online and on campus using innovative learning and teaching practices, 

Research and Scholarship 

  • Contribute to high quality research and research output aligned with the discipline and the university’s strategic plan, 

Industry and Professional Practice 

  • Maintain and engage with industry professional connections, strategic alliances and relevant professional bodies including industrial, commercial and public organisations, 

Academic Leadership 

  • Coordinate subjects, sites, small programs and other academic activity where required,

Collaboration, Outcomes and Innovation 

  • Collaborate with other academic staff across Torrens University, Media Design School and the wider SEI group to enhance teaching and learning, scholarship and research,

Who you are 

  • Preferably a PhD in Information Technology or related fields. 
  • At least three years of relevant industry experience. 
  • A demonstrated track record of high-quality teaching in IT or related field. 
  • A demonstrated commitment to work collaboratively in a team environment 
  • A commitment to personal growth and continuous professional development. 
  • A high service ethos towards students to support their learning. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

This is a full-time permanent position based at our Wakefield campus in Adelaide. Classes are delivered both on campus and online.
