Position: Lecturer
Description: The Princeton Writing Program invites applications for Lecturers to teach two topic-based, multidisciplinary Writing Seminars to first-year students in the Spring Term of 2025. The Writing Seminars are designed to help students learn how to frame compelling questions and problems, position an argument within a scholarly conversation, and substantiate claims using a variety of source materials. Every first-year student completes a Writing Seminar to fulfill the University writing requirement, building transferable skills which serve as a foundation for their ongoing development as critical thinkers, researchers, and writers across the disciplines. We welcome applications from candidates who have previously taught with the Princeton Writing Program. Strong interest in writing pedagogy from across all fields of study in the social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and engineering is an asset. As part of this teaching-intensive postdoctoral program, faculty benefit from regular pedagogy workshops and professional development opportunities. Lecturers are responsible for developing syllabi in accord with guidelines established by the Writing Program. This one-time appointment is expected to begin January 16, 2025, and run through June 30, 2025. The salary for full-time Lecturers for a single semester will be a minimum of $40,125. This is a benefits eligible position. The Lecturer search is open until filled. The deadline for full consideration is October 27, 2024. Apply online at https://puwebp.princeton.edu/AcadHire/position/36563 and include the following: a current CV; a one-page cover letter reflecting on your approach to teaching writing; a 200-word course description for a multidisciplinary Writing Seminar; an academic writing sample (15 pages or an excerpt); and contact information for three references. Please see current course descriptions for models (https://writing.princeton.edu/undergraduates/writing-seminars). This position is subject to the University’s background check policy. The Writing Program is committed to sustaining a diverse community of scholars who are dedicated to promoting a culture of growth and discovery among students at the University. We strongly encourage women and members from underrepresented groups to apply. The work location for this position is in-person on campus at Princeton University. Essential Qualifications Successful candidates will be strong and reflective academic writers, have demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching and mentoring, and have carefully considered the role of writing in teaching their courses. The Ph.D. is expected.
