About the RoleThe School of Engineering & Materials Science (SEMS) is home to The Centre for Advanced Robotics @ Queen Mary (ARQ). ARQ staff apply their robotics expertise to a wide range of research problems and applications, including soft robotics, cognitive robotics, haptics and tactile sensing, grasping and manipulation, robot learning, digital twins, human-robot interaction and drones, aligning to our three core research centres: ‘Sustainable Engineering, ‘Intelligent Transport’ and ‘Bioengineering’. Staff also support our delivery of engineering and robotics undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of study. In REF2021, SEMS was ranked 7th overall and 2nd for the quality of our research outputs.We are looking for world-leading researchers in any robotic area able to complement and expand our robotics research and teaching and strengthen the integration of robotics activity across SEMS. This encompasses the design of robot mechanisms, control, perception, and autonomy, sensors and actuators, machine learning, and other topics related to real-world applications of robotic systems, but we are particularly interested in candidates whose research aligns with artificial intelligence approaches.About YouApplicants should have a proven track record of research achievement demonstrated through refereed journal publications, and at a minimum outstanding potential for research income generation, with a proven track record expected for a role at senior lecturer level.A commitment to high-quality student education is also essential, to develop, support and deliver on campus our taught programmes, particularly in the robotics area.We particularly welcome applications from people who identify as women, Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic groups as these groups are underrepresented at this level at Queen Mary.About the School/Department/Institute/ProjectThis post is within the School of Engineering and Materials Science, a large School with over 100 academics.
