Up to £24,000 per annumThe Costs team at Weightmans deals with all aspects of legal costs from initial strategy advice and reserving through to budgeting and costs at conclusion whether that be as a paying or receiving party. The team help both internal and external clients across a broad spectrum of claims from fixed costs matters to large commercial disputes. The Costs team is a national team of 20 people sitting across 5 offices. This role is to be based in our Liverpool office and applicants need to be able to attend at that office at least 2 days per week.The Role
As a Legal Assistant your role is split role to include admin assistant and paralegal responsibilities.You will be required to assist the team with any administrative tasks required. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Opening new files
  • Dealing with client balances
  • Chasing payments
  • Billing
  • Closing files
  • Preparing bundles

As a Legal Assistant, you will be provided with the opportunity to work on a wide variety of cases.Your key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting fee earners with various tasks including general case management
  • Legal research
  • Drafting of acknowledgement of service
  • Drafting Part 36 offers
  • Responding promptly and accurately to correspondence and telephone enquiries from clients and other parties, with and without supervision
  • Achieving set financial and chargeable targets

This list is not intended to be exhaustive and you will be expected to perform other duties and have other responsibilities that fall within the wider remit of the role.You will also ensure that you comply with the relevant Weightmans and client policies and procedures, and consistently work in accordance with our values.About You
You will have previous experience as a Legal Assistant in the legal field and a genuine and demonstrable interest in the above area of work. As the role is varied, we are looking for you to have a flexible approach to the work you do and be able to adapt to different tasks. We also require you to have:

  • Excellent IT skills
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and concentration
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and targets
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
