We are looking for a highly motivated consumer lawyer with experience of advising on regulatory matters and managing engagement with regulators, including the response to investigations, within the technology sector or other comparable regulated consumer-facing industries.The Role
This role will play an important role in the Europe Legal team and will be expected to handle a range of complex and high profile issues. The suitable candidate should also be comfortable with working in a fast-paced environment and, on occasions, dealing with urgent and/or competing deadlines. With the ongoing European Commission Digital Fairness Fitness Check on consumer law and new Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 in the UK, there really has never been a more exciting time to be a consumer lawyer.Responsibilities will include:
– supporting business teams to ensure ongoing compliance with new and existing consumer and related online platform-related legislation and guidance across Europe;
– acting as a key contact for our product legal team to review new products and features, or developments to existing products and features, against relevant law and guidance;
– advising on user journeys and processes, including terms of service, consumer contracts and provision of key information;
– engaging with regulators responsible for consumer law and related online platform regulation, with responsibility for influencing policy and legislative development, and ensuring the consistent and strategic handling of regulatory enquiries and investigations;
– assessing risk and coordinating with the wider business as a trusted adviser on compliance and risk management issues; and
– identifying areas for process improvement and efficiency, including producing and rolling-out guidance to the business and compliance functions.Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications
– Qualified solicitor (or equivalent) with 4+ years’ PQE in private practice or a leading in-house team, with a strong technical knowledge of EU and UK consumer law, advertising rules and other areas of regulation relevant to online video sharing platforms.
– Experience of consumer regulatory compliance and investigations within Europe, ideally in the context of online platforms or another regulated sector.
– A proven ability to distil complex issues and provide practical, implementable advice and options.
– Ability to organise, prioritise and plan effectively in order to manage a large number and variety of high profile and strategic projects, and navigate ambiguous legal and regulatory environments.
– Ability to work as a team player who can effectively work with, manage, coordinate and influence colleagues, internal stakeholders and the business to shape commercial decisions. A positive mindset and strong resilience, someone who will relish change, embrace new ways of working, challenge existing processes and enjoy exploring new ideas.
– Highly motivated individual with the ability to think creatively, with excellent attention to detail, and an ability to find sound solutions to challenging legal, operational and commercial issues.
– Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and proficient in working closely with and advising senior stakeholders.Preferred Qualifications
