UNICEF’s Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) seeks experienced content production consultants to support the creation of high-quality, compelling content that strengthens UNICEF’s brand and drives income, influence, and supporter engagement. The consultants will contribute to a range of projects, including emergency response content, impact stories demonstrating UNICEF’s results for children, and materials supporting high-value donor engagement and virtual experiences.

PURPOSE OF ASSIGNMENT:

To meet the growing need for compelling content that drives private sector engagement, UNICEF PFP would like to engage the services of content production professionals to support the production of content during emergencies as well as coordination, planning and project management of large projects, engagement events/virtual experiences that support the acquisition and stewardship of UNICEF’s high value audiences (corporates, foundations, major donors, etc) in emergencies and non-emergency situations as well as impact stories. 

This includes working remotely to conceptualize, plan, coordinate, draft creative briefs, script, organize shoots and direct crews on location (usually remotely), shoot photography and video, edit and post production, fact-check assets, and coordinate approvals.  

OBJECTIVE(S):
The overall objective is to set up LTA to cover the full suite of production services and divided into 3 categories: Producers, Production, and Editing/Post-production.
MAJOR TASKS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED:
Successful consultants must provide professional services aimed at engaging private sector audiences and ultimately to support children.
Scope of Work:
Category 1: Producers
  • Research issues and stories to be documented, including pre-interviews 

  • Write briefs, develop story lines and angles to be explored 

  • Brief and work closely (usually remotely) with crews and content creators in the field (videographers, on location producers, photographers), coordinating closely with them during the shoot to ensure the content is developed according to brief and troubleshoot issues as needed, being mindful of sensitivities of specific situations. 

  • Where necessary will travel to the location to support the content creation, direct the technical crew on site, being mindful of sensitivities of specific situations. 

  • Will draft scripts ensuring all the detail (names, locations, facts) have been fact-checked 

  • Ensure all content produced is in line with UNICEF’s brand, ethical and technical specifications 

  • Review, edit, and consolidate material, ensuring clarity and continuity of structure and core themes. 

  • Ensuring all assets are packaged for distribution (e.g uploading to UNICEF’s DAM, WeShare) and ensuring all versions (international, mixed, and other social media versions) are available with accompanying shotlists, metadata.  

  • Work in close coordination (where required) with HQ and Country Office counterparts to help capture relevant stories and photo essays and short digital pieces for social media. 

  • Producing repurposed assets such as explainers, photo essays for specific events or initiatives, milestone moments. 

  • Ensure all paperwork including shotlists, scripts are provided according to UNICEF’s standards 

  • Ensure implementation of the UNICEF workflows and production toolkits 

  • Manage approvals, rounds of changes for assets  

Category 2: Production

  • Production of high quality multimedia assets 

  • Research and take part in production planning 

  • Shoot video material on location or at events for various audiences including interviews and required Broll coverage of the programme or activities.  

  • Adhering to UNICEF’s production guidelines 

  • May be required to package raw materials into selections for editors and UNICEF teams 

  • Upload content and send to producers and/or editors in line with  

  • May be required to translate raw material of some content where appropriate 

  • May be required to take capture photography in certain instances 

Category 3: Editing and Post Production

  • Post-Production of high-quality multimedia assets, including human interest stories, narrative content, explainers, montage pieces, thank you videos, impact stories for emergencies, high-value needs, and private sector engagement activities such as virtual experiences (e.g. profile stories, b-roll, impact stories, photo loops)  

  • Production support for live or prerecorded online/ virtual events and experiences for private sector audiences by supporting the producer to prepare and package content, and other production needs  

  • Contribute to the briefing of in-country videographers, creatives as needed, and contribute to project team brainstorms and creative ideation as needed  

  • Creating and delivering basic motion graphics for various media  

  • Work in close coordination (where required) with PFP teams, HQ and Country Office counterparts to help capture relevant, powerful stories for private sector audiences.  

  • Review, edit, and consolidate the material, ensuring clarity and continuity of structure and core themes.  

  • Check spelling, country, and city names and acronyms and other abbreviations (making sure that they follow official UNICEF terminology and conventions), style consistency and Brand Toolkit  

  • Ensure all paperwork, including shotlists, scripts are provided according to UNICEF’s standards  

  • Ensure implementation of the UNICEF workflows and production toolkits
  • Be available for several rounds of editing.  

  • Deliver on tight, short timelines as needed  

  • Production of b-roll suitable to broadcast media and with detailed shotlists  

  • Edited materials suitable and tailored to trends specific to individual platforms, such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram reels, etc.  

Responsibilities of the Consultant:
  • The consultant will use their own equipment; camera, microphones, software, and other accessories that may be required.
  • The consultant will not give the content/material or any part thereof, to any third party without the written permission of UNICEF. All components will be a property of UNICEF, and the consultant will not share the same with anyone else.
Responsibilities of UNICEF:
  • UNICEF will provide all details pertaining to the activity and the requirements.
  • UNICEF will orient the consultant on UNICEF’s branding, imagery, and production guidelines.
DELIVERABLES

Work Assignments Overview 

Deliverables/Outputs 

 Category 1: Producers 

 

  • Identify relevant stories and angles suited for UNICEF’s private sector audiences (emergencies and non-emergency settings, including impact stories). This includes human interest stories, profiles pieces, call to action pieces, explainers etc.   

  • Plan and coordinate with internal and/or external content production teams and UNICEF teams to document stories, as much as possible in a modular format (photo, video, text).  

  • Videos may vary between 1min – 10min pieces, photo sets – up to 30 photos (including captions), text stories of up to 800 words per story, shorthand multimedia pieces for which each piece could include estimated 4 text pieces (500-600words) including the complication of multimedia material (up to 3 videos, 10 photos) 

  • Oversee the production and post-production process and approval processes 

  • Write scripts and edit text pieces as needed (including fact-checking) 

  • Ensure the final products meet UNICEF technical, ethical, and quality guidelines 

  • Ensure the content is packaged and oversee uploading to UNICEF’s DAM WeShare 

  • Draft a distribution plan and ensure the content is shared with relevant stakeholders 

 

Category 2: Production 

 

  • Production of high quality multimedia assets 

  • Research and take part in production planning 

  • Shoot video material on location or at events for various audiences including interviews and required Broll coverage of the programme or activities.  

  • Adhering to UNICEF’s production guidelines 

  • May be required to package raw materials into selections for editors and UNICEF teams 

  • Upload content and send to producers and/or editors in line with  

  • May be required to translate raw material of some content where appropriate 

  • May be required to take capture photography in certain instances 

 

Category 3: Editing and Post Production 

 

  • Professional video editing of videos (usually between 2-3min each, and occasionally 5 min versions) for multiple platforms, other social media platforms, personalized donor messages, and others  

  • Creative graphics treatments including some basic motion graphics  

  • Production of b-roll suitable to broadcast media and with detailed shotlists  

  • Submission of assets in all formats applicable to PFP’s audience specification (16×9, 9×16, 1×1)  

  • Shotlists and scripts  

  • International versions of all projects  

  • Graphics and subtitles in English and one other UN language 7. On occasion support in compiling multimedia (mainly video) products for platforms such as Shorthand 

TRAVEL:
  • No travel is envisaged for this consultancy. However, if there is a possibility of travel during the assignment on a per need basis, this will be covered separately by UNICEF and not included in the fee.

Estimated Duration of LTA:

  • The Long-Term Agreement will be for a duration of three years.

Contracts created against the LTA:

Whenever services are required, details of the requirement/deliverables including quantities and deadlines will be presented to the top-ranking LTA holder. Should this consultant not be available for this assignment, UNICEF will contact the second ranked consultant and so on.

Upon receipt of confirmation of availability and interest in the assignment, a contract will be issued with the prices/fees agreed in the LTA. The consultant must sign the contract prior commencement of work.

Payment will be made after completion of deliverables and submission of invoices for the actual work completed, subject to satisfactory performance.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

Education:
  • A first level university degree in one of the following fields is required: Marketing, Communications, the Humanities, journalism, or another relevant technical field.
  • Any other additional training in a related field is an asset.
Experience:
  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in multimedia and communications is required.
  • Proven experience in all facets of multimedia production is required.
  • Experience in working with professional photographers, videographers, writers is an asset.
  • Experience in working with creative teams/ agencies and sound understanding of the creative process is an asset.
  • Experience in scriptwriting is an asset.
  • Experience producing video content for news broadcasters or other high-pressure environments is desirable.
  • Experience in project management is an asset.
  • Experience working in a developing and emergency environment is an asset.
Language:
  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
