Salary Grade/Plan:

Maintenance Support Tech I (A13): $35,439 – $52,388

Maintenance Support Tech II (A15): $38,976 – $58,045

Maintenance Support Tech III (A17) $42,976 – $64,469

This position is for (1) Maintenance Support Tech. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant’s work experience, education, skill level, and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs

Position Description

Performs administrative support-related work in a maintenance office or district headquarters. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:

Maintenance Support Tech I

  • Answers the telephone, evaluates requests, answers questions, routes messages, and/or serves as receptionist or front desk assistant.
  • Assists district personnel with annual inventory of supplies, stockpiles and minor equipment.
  • Conducts monthly spot inventories, verifies inventory findings, reconciles and coordinates with Business Services on adjustments needed.
  • Maintains radio contact with field units; responds to assists with emergency situations as required.
  • Maintains and updates office files/records/logs and a wide variety of automated systems in support of personnel, finance, budgeting, maintenance, inventory, contracts, purchasing, travel information, and/or permitting activities.
  • Processes receipts and invoices for payment.
  • Edits correspondence, reports, forms, and documents for proper format, spelling, grammar, punctuation, typographical errors, syntax, style, sentence structure, content, and clarity.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. 

Maintenance Support Tech II (In addition to duties above)

  • Composes and prepares correspondence and applicable recurring or special one-time reports and/or confidential and sensitive communications.
  • Maintains materials inventory.
  • Monitors equipment mileage and service records.

Maintenance Support Tech III (In addition to duties above)

  • Inputs and maintains daily production reports and compiles monthly reports for manager
  • Coordinates with district personnel with annual inventory of supplies, stockpiles and minor equipment
  • Answers the telephone, evaluates requests, answers questions, routes messages, and/or serves as receptionist or front desk assistant
  • Coordinates and tracks the progress of projects and/or specialized programs and informs supervisor or other Department officials of status.
  • Prepares statistical reports and verifies for accuracy and completeness
  • Maintains calendars for department personnel to include scheduling meetings, coordinating and making appointments, and travel arrangements.

Minimum Qualifications:

Maintenance Support Tech I, II, III:

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience: 

Maintenance Support Tech I:

None

Maintenance Support Tech II:

1 YEAR in administrative or clerical support, customer service, or related experience.

(Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part time equivalent)

Maintenance Support Tech III:

3 YEARs in administrative or clerical support, customer service, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent) 

Licenses and Certifications:

Maintenance Support Tech I, II,III

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle

Maintenance Support Tech I, II, III:

Competencies:

  • Office management practices and procedures
  • Inventory/stock control procedures
  • Purchasing methods and procedures
  • Dealing courteously and effectively with the public
  • Administrative support practices and procedures to include writing, editing and report writing techniques, recording meeting notes, record keeping and records management
  • Preparing correspondence/documents using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation; proofreading and reviewing documents for clarity and consistency

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs. at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs. at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
