This Environmental Manager position will provide support and oversight of environmental compliance efforts for operations in the Pacific Northwest region including container, rail, cruise, breakbulk and bulk cargo facilities as well as warehouse operations. The incumbent will participate in the development and roll-out of new plans, in addition to ensuring that existing plans and policies are properly implemented. The position often engages with representatives from regulatory agencies, Port authorities, consultants and industry peers on a regular basis to ensure that our organization’s interests are well represented. This is an opportunity to contribute to reducing SSA’s overall environmental impact and to further our Environmental Sustainability efforts.
Scheduling and performance of periodic environmental testing and preparation of reports
Collection of environmental data, including field sampling, and associated reporting
Accurate record keeping and documentation updates
Support operational teams in the interpretation and response to environmental regulations
Renewal of expiring environmental permits
Acts as point of contact with regulatory agencies and Port Represents SSA at all necessary on/off site meetings
Conducting periodic inspections of SSA facilities and guide corrective actions as needed
Provide support in response to environmental incidents involving spills
Attend industry conferences and workshops
Liaison with consultants providing environmental support
Maritime industry and terminal operations experience preferable
Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
Proven performance in team environment
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Competence with standard computer applications
Knowledge and experience of Industrial Stormwater Permitting, Hazardous Waste, Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasures (SPCC) and air quality regulations a must
Knowledge and experience with EMS and data management systems
Able and willing to work non-conventional hours
Familiarity with Dept of Ecology data systems (SAW) and RCRAInfo
Experience with environmental training development and implementation

Work Environment:
Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment, however, 50% of time may be spent outdoors in a marine terminal environment.
Exposure to computer screens.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Some travel may be required.
