The Manager will have experience in credit risk management, knowledge of Small Business credit policies and processes and the ability to provide meaningful commentary on credit performance and policy recommendations.Reporting to the Senior Manager, Small Business Risk Policy and Acquisitions, the Manager will work closely with senior management, GRM colleagues, business line leads, and a diverse set of stakeholders to generate and deliver on credit policy and process recommendations and effective challenge to the 1st line of defense.Is this role right for you? In this role, you will be responsible for:Credit Policy

  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to design, develop and implement effective credit risk and customer account management policies, processes and strategies across the credit life cycle for the Small Business lending products, to align with the Credit Risk Appetite, enhance portfolio performance and the overall customer experience, with the support of analytics and competitive analysis while providing effective challenge to the 1st line of defense.
  • Monitor, assess and evaluate overall credit strategies/policies and portfolio performance.
  • Recommend improvements of existing policies and procedures while ensuring all new approved credit is aligned with risk appetite and will optimize risk/return over the long term
  • Identify if any credit risks exceed or will exceed the Risk Appetite Framework. Move quickly to rectify including: identifying root cause, making recommendations to senior management, and implementing changes
  • Monitor and manage the Small Business loan portfolio against established risk tolerance ranges and in concert with other Life Cycle Risk teams in GRM (e.g., Policy, Collections, etc.) and ensure those are achieved within the risk-reward framework.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Prepare communications for Executive audiences

Support Business Line Initiatives/Projects

  • Collaborate with the Business Line, Global Operations and GRM colleagues to establish recommendations based on data-driven observations and analyses while ensuring all Business Line and GRM initiatives are consistent with the Risk Appetite Framework and customer-focussed strategies.
  • Participate in projects for Small Business including representing GRM at working sessions and preparing requirements documents
  • Maintain knowledge, relative to assigned products, of the Bank’s procedures, systems, programs and policies.
  • Identify opportunities and recommend changes to Business Line strategies to ensure the Bank does not take on more credit risk than planned

Canadian Regulator, Internal Audit and Fraud Management

  • Support OSFI-related initiatives.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • A business-related university undergraduate degree
  • 3–5 years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of credit adjudication and credit risk management practices, to effectively challenge current practices and undergoing efforts.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret information/data required to monitor the performance and enhance credit policies
  • Excellent communication skills including expertise with creating PowerPoint presentations
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to manage ambiguity
  • Highly organized with proven ability to work independently to deliver results in a time-pressured environment
  • Sound understanding of Small Business products, programs, processes, policies, compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of the Bank’s business objectives, strategies, overall products and services, policies, legal requirements, and internal operating environment
  • Able to effectively manage relationships across the Bank
  • Demonstrated propensity to learn with ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, comfortable with evolving role and wide-ranging responsibilities.
