Marine Consultant – Senior Consultant, Marine Mammals

We are looking for a talented individual with a proven track record of delivering marine mammal Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to join our Marine Renewables & Infrastructure team, within our Capital Project Delivery business unit. Offer can be made at Consultant or Senior Consultant level, depending on experience.

The team are currently driving the development of ERM’s Marine Centre of Excellence – a world-leading hub of marine environmental and planning consultancy services for a wide range of clients across numerous seabed user sectors and marine projects, including offshore wind. 

You will manage specialist input to EIAs from external sub-contractors; to carry out specific marine mammal and megafauna elements such as population-level assessments, understanding of underwater noise modelling, and latest assessment processes for Unexploded Ordinance (UXO) deflagration. Importantly, you should have a thorough understanding of these key assessment aspects so that conclusions can be reviewed, questioned and challenged. Scope also exists within this role for a suitably qualified and ambitious applicant to take a more proactive lead in developing our in-house capabilities in the marine mammal and megafauna aspects of EIA and Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA).

About you

You’ll be degree qualified in a relevant technical subject and have demonstrable project experience in either marine consultancy, academia or working for Regulatory Bodies, Statutory Nature Conservation Bodies (SNCBs), or environmental Non-governmental Organisations (eNGOs). You should have experience of practical application of EIA procedures, and working knowledge of marine offshore wind farm impacts, and HRA. You’ll also require a good understanding of UK marine policy, legislation, and consenting issues.
