The Licensed/Master Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems across school facilities to ensure a safe and efficient learning environment. This role requires expertise in troubleshooting, compliance with electrical codes, and collaborating with maintenance teams to support school operations. The Master Electrician will also oversee electrical projects, provide guidance to junior electricians, and ensure all work meets safety and regulatory standards.
Pay: $32.00/hour
The pay listed is the hourly range or the hourly rate for this position. A specific offer will vary based on the applicant’s experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data.
401(k) – You become eligible to make personal contributions beginning the first of the month following 30 days of employment. You become eligible for the ABM match beginning the first of the month following six months of employment. ABM matches your pre-tax and/or Roth contributions, dollar for dollar, for the first 3%. For the next 2%, ABM contributes $0.50 for each dollar you contribute. Your contributions and match are immediately vested.

Key Responsibilities: Electrical Maintenance & Repairs:
- Install, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, including lighting, HVAC controls, security systems, and fire alarms.
- Perform preventive maintenance to ensure electrical infrastructure remains in optimal condition.
- Diagnose and repair electrical failures in school buildings, classrooms, auditoriums, and outdoor facilities.
- Maintain and upgrade electrical panels, wiring, and circuit breakers to support the school’s operational needs.
Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure all electrical work complies with local, state, and national electrical codes (NEC) and school district regulations.
- Follow safety protocols to protect students, staff, and faculty from electrical hazards.
- Conduct electrical inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend solutions.
Project Management & Supervision:
- Lead and oversee electrical projects, including new installations, renovations, and system upgrades.
- Coordinate with facility managers, contractors, and school administrators to plan and execute electrical work efficiently.
- Supervise and mentor junior electricians, apprentices, and maintenance staff involved in electrical projects.
Technical Expertise & Documentation:
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals for electrical systems.
- Maintain accurate records of electrical maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
- Provide recommendations for energy-efficient solutions and cost-saving measures.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Valid Master Electrician License (state-specific).
- 5+ years of experience as a licensed electrician, preferably in an educational or institutional setting.
- Strong knowledge of electrical codes, safety regulations, and best practices.
- Experience with low-voltage systems, fire alarms, emergency generators, and automated building systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues efficiently.
- Proficiency in using electrical tools, testing equipment, and diagnostic software.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift, climb, and work in confined spaces as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in K-12 or higher education environments.
- Knowledge of energy management systems and sustainability practices.
- Familiarity with building automation and smart electrical systems.
Work Environment:
- Work is primarily performed in school buildings, maintenance facilities, and outdoor areas.
- May require occasional evening or weekend work for emergency repairs or scheduled maintenance.
- Exposure to electrical hazards; personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
