Master Mechanic & Bottling Manager

Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Master Mechanic & Bottling Manager to lead the maintenance and packaging operations for our winery’s bottling line. This dual-function role is critical to ensuring the efficiency, reliability, and quality of our bottling process — spanning both still and traditional method sparkling wine production.

The ideal candidate brings a balance of mechanical expertise and production leadership, with deep familiarity in winery equipment, bottling systems, and team coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead preventative maintenance and troubleshooting across all bottling line machinery, including:
    • Bertolasso monoblock with electro-pneumatic filler (corker, screwcap, bidule/crowner)
    • Omar bottle washer/dryer
    • Robino & Galandrino capsuler/spinner
    • Bortolinkemo case packer
    • C&G three-station rotary labeler
    • L&C Logiclosure and Logilook inspection/rejection stations
    • Hot glue case sealer
    • Tawi vacuum-assisted semi-auto case stacking
    • Barida ISO6 counterpressure filler and Barida 900 disgorgement monoblock
    • Conveyor control systems and supporting winery production equipment
  • Perform diagnostics and repairs on motors, gearboxes, pulleys, bearings, valves, pumps, and electrical systems.
  • Fabricate and modify parts as needed for installation or upgrades.
  • Manage and maintain the preventative maintenance schedule and spare parts inventory.
  • Provide occasional maintenance support to other winery sites or mobile bottling operations.
  • Oversee daily operations of the bottling line to ensure efficiency, minimal downtime, and adherence to quality standards.
  • Manage all bottling line changeovers, setups, and equipment calibrations to meet package specifications for various SKUs.
  • Coordinate with Winemaking and QC to ensure product integrity from tank to bottle.
  • Maintain a clean, well-organized, and compliant bottling facility.
  • Oversee inventory of bottling and packaging supplies (filters, closures, wrap, glue, etc.).
  • Schedule and support traditional method sparkling operations including riddling and disgorging.
  • Interpret equipment manuals, SOPs, and technical drawings for staff training and troubleshooting.
  • Lead, train, and supervise bottling line operators, technicians, and seasonal crews or contractors.
  • Assist in labor planning, hiring, and onboarding for the bottling team.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement in the workplace.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to promote team skill development.
  • Recommend capital improvements and assist with equipment selection, acquisition, and installation.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, quality checks, and production metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, food safety regulations, and traceability requirements.
  • Collaborate with other departments (winemaking, logistics, quality) to ensure cohesive operations and scheduling.
  • Evaluate and implement process improvements for greater efficiency, equipment reliability, and product consistency.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in a winery, food/beverage manufacturing, or packaging environment.
  • Strong mechanical skills: electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Proficient in equipment diagnostics, repairs, welding, and fabrication.
  • Experience with traditional method sparkling wine operations is a plus.
  • Proven leadership ability in a production or maintenance setting.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Flexible and responsive to dynamic production schedules and needs.
