Job Summary
The Material Planner I is responsible for supporting Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and production control activities within a manufacturing environment. This role manages material flow from receiving through production and shipment while coordinating with Supply Chain, Purchasing, Program Management, and Operations teams. The position supports material planning, inventory management, procurement strategies, production schedules, and customer requirements to ensure on-time delivery and operational efficiency. This is an onsite, contract-to-hire opportunity supporting aerospace manufacturing operations.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare material requirements lists using engineering drawings, blueprints, bills of materials (BOMs), and production specifications.
- Review engineering documentation to identify material requirements, quantities, routing information, and special handling instructions.
- Support purchasing activities by providing accurate material requirements for procurement planning.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain, Program Management, and Operations teams to develop and execute material procurement strategies.
- Monitor material availability and support delivery schedule adherence to meet production requirements.
- Create and maintain shop work orders for materials and production processing activities.
- Coordinate with production schedulers to ensure materials and products are processed according to specifications and timelines.
- Maintain inventory levels, reorder points, material consumption data, and planning records.
- Track material movement and maintain progress reports, schedules, and related documentation.
- Support Material Requirements Planning (MRP) activities using SAP or similar ERP systems.
- Analyze customer requirements and production demands to support planning and fulfillment activities.
- Ensure accuracy of inventory transactions and material planning records.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to material planning and supply chain operations.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma required.
- Minimum of two years of experience in Material Planning, Supply Chain, Production Planning, Inventory Control, Material Handling, or a related field.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Experience with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) processes.
- Knowledge of Bills of Materials (BOMs), inventory control, and production planning concepts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other business software applications.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to interpret manufacturing specifications, drawings, and engineering documentation.
- Experience supporting purchasing, procurement, or manufacturing operations.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- High school diploma required.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Work Experience
- Experience in Material Planning, Production Planning, Supply Chain, Inventory Control, Material Handling, or Manufacturing Operations.
- Experience with SAP or other ERP/MRP systems preferred.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience reading and interpreting manufacturing specifications and technical drawings preferred.
