The medical secretary works in a team environment providing clerical and secretarial support, as well as telephone triaging of patient calls, general office managementQualifications
- Community College diploma from a recognized two-year Community College or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of five years’ secretarial experience.
- Minimum 1 year experience in the telephone triaging of patients
- Medical Terminology Certificate 1 and 2 or demonstrated knowledge equivalent to the Medical Terminology Certificate 1 and 2, which may be subject to testing.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Proficient keyboarding skills, 60 w.p.m.
- Ability to transcribe from dictation.
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills and proficiency in English grammar.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively handle inquiries from a variety of sources (patients, families and physicians)
- Excellent organizational skills for prioritizing workload.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Highly motivated and self-directed.
- Tact and discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
- Ability to work independently and identify priorities.
