The Medical Support Services staff are accountable for the safe storage and cleaning of respiratory and other medical equipment to ensure adherence to infectious control and safety standards. S/he works collaboratively with biomed to ensure PMs and equipment updates are completed in a timely manner. S/he transports patients between units as requested, ensuring safety at all times.
Maintenance, Delivery and Cleaning of Medical Equipment & Related Supplies:
- Responsible for sterilization of respiratory equipment according to manufacturer’s guidelines to meet The Joint Commission standards.
- Responsible for ensuring the appropriate cleaning of some other medical equipment including IV pumps, feeding pumps, bladder scanners, etc. to ensure they are clean, properly functioning and ready for the next patient use.
- Responsible for accurate assemble of respiratory care equipment to ensure patient safety.
- Rotates and stocks respiratory care equipment in all designated areas.
- Responsible for the ordering of associated ‘special-order’ supplies to ensure they are available when
- needed.
- Delivers medical equipment to patient care areas as needed.
Patient Transport:
- Transports appropriate patients within the organization, ensuring patient safety, clear hand offs and checking two unique identifiers to ensure correct patient and paperwork
Monitors Equipment Usage and Department Operations:
- Monitors the use of some medical equipment for a variety of purposes, including: to determine if current supply meets the organizational need, to ensure rental equipment is returned as soon as possible, to ensure equipment is returned to the Depot when not in use and to rotate out equipment.
Education and/or Experience Required:
- High School Diploma, GED, or a higher level of education that would require the completion of high school, is required.
Education and/or Experience Preferred:
- 1-2 years’ experience in a healthcare setting strongly preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Skills:
- Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office and Microsoft Word)

- Follow routine verbal or written instructions.
- Maintain confidentiality of records/information.
- Gather data, compile information.
- Organize resources and establish priorities.
