Summary of Position 

The services in the Counseling Center are offered free of charge to all Plymouth State University undergraduate and graduate students. Our staff are a diverse group of mental health professionals regarding both theoretical orientation and professional discipline/background. Our clinical work is rooted in a multidisciplinary team approach, with close communication and

collaboration among our staff and with other departments on campus and other providers in the community.

This position will provide individual and group psychological counseling and crisis response to students, consultation to faculty and staff, campus outreach and support other counseling center needs and projects as appropriate.

Provides clinical/emergency crisis response and crisis stabilization for the campus.

Acceptable minimum level of education Master’s

Other minimum qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology or related discipline, and two years of full-time licensed counseling experience in a mental health agency or counseling center.
  • NH License or license eligible as a mental health professional.
  • Computer skills as required by department for necessary reporting and electronic communications.
  • Exemplary written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialization and/or certification (LADC, Disordered Eating Specialist, EMDR, etc.)
  • Technologically Adept: proficient in Microsoft Office 365, experience with or a willingness to learn Titanium, CCAPS and time management software.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusion.
  • Recent and relevant clinical experience with students, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

  • Duty/Responsibility
  • Provides individual and group counseling.
  • Consultation services to faculty and staff regarding psychological issues which adversely affect the mental health of students.
  • Participation in emergency on-call rotation.
  • Participation in individual supervision/consultation with director and presentation at clinical/medical staff meetings.
  • Provide outreach and support for campus as needed/requested.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director (committees, projects, etc.).
  • Duty/ResponsibilityResponds to and provides critical counseling services during crisis scenarios to stabilize and minimize various levels of distress that occur, primarily focusing on student population, but may also be tasked with support general campus community.

Duty/Responsibility 

A) Direct Clinical Services

  1. Participates in the provision of clinical crisis services;
  2. Participates in the provision of mental health triage services;
  3. Provides time-limited individual, couples, and group therapy with a focus on crisis stabilization;
  4. Administers and interprets limited assessment measures;
  5. Responds to campus crises;
  6. May provide initial screening/assessment of clients and/or individual, couples, or group counseling in non-emergent cases, e.g. for personal, vocational, or educational issues, as level of demand for crisis services alow;
  7. Provides consultation to staff, faculty, family and students regarding crisis intervention/response, and general student well being; and
  8. Demonstrates a commitment to multiculturalism and serving underrepresented/underserved populations.

Duty/Responsibility 

B. Indirect Clinical Service

  1. Attends crisis stabilization case consultation and case review meetings;
  2. Provides recommendations regarding level of care considerations for students in need of crisis stabilization;
  3. Facilitates collaboration between Counseling Center, medical providers, Dean of Students and family members caring for students in need of crisis stabilization;
  4. Collaborates and consults with community providers who specialize in and provide services for PSU students in need of crisis stabilization;
  5. Receives weekly clinical supervision/consultation, and provides consultation to colleagues;
  6. Makes policy and procedure recommendations regarding services for students in need of crisis intervention and stabilization, and
  7. Offer suggestions for programs and services focused on students in need of crisis stabilization.

Duty/Responsibility 

C. Administrative

  1. Maintains accurate and timely documetation for all clinical interactions and consultations;
  2. Follows PSU and Counseling Center policies, procedures, and guidelines consistent with state mental health statutes, ethical guidelines, best practices, HIPAA, and FERPA;
  3. Attends clinical, medical, and administrative staffing meetings;
  4. Attends professional development activities and maintains professional licensure;
  5. May provide presentations to staff, faculty, parents and external organizations;
  6. May provide outreach and prevention activities to PSU community;
  7. Partcipates in Counseling Center committees as requested;
  8. May develop formal teaching relationships with academic departments;
  9. As budget allows, may represent Counseling Center in the Plymouth community, and with local, regional, and national professional organizations; and
  10. Other related duties as assigned.
