Salary: £13.68 – £16.12 per hour

GSL Education have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Support Worker in local school based in Bournemouth.About the School:The school is committed to empowering all students, including those with Autism and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, to thrive as independent, successful, and confident individuals. They prioritise strong relationships and personal development, building upon foundations established in primary school. The curriculum balances academic excellence with personal and social skills development, tailored to meet the diverse needs of the students. The school aims to foster an inclusive learning environment where every student can reach their full potential.About the Role:As a Mental Health Support Worker, you’ll support students facing mental health challenges, helping them navigate their education. Collaborating with teachers and families, you’ll create a nurturing environment that addresses each student’s emotional needs.Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored assistance to students with complex needs related to mental health, anxiety, and behaviour, ensuring effective implementation of their EHCPs.
  • Work alongside teaching staff to develop an inclusive and engaging curriculum that addresses mental health and behavioural challenges across various subjects, including outdoor education.
  • Create a nurturing learning atmosphere that promotes social, emotional, and mental well-being, specifically targeting anxiety and behavioural issues.
  • Dispense medications in accordance with school policy and specialist techniques, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
  • Provide intimate and personal care, including hygiene and bathing, while maintaining the highest standards of dignity and respect.
  • Encourage and enable students to achieve a high level of independence in daily activities.
  • Under the direction of the class teacher, support students in engaging in classroom activities to their fullest potential, employing appropriate total communication techniques.

Ideal Candidate: GSL Education are seeking a compassionate and adaptable individual with the following qualities:

  • A deep comprehension of the diverse needs associated with Mental Health, Anxiety, and Behaviour.
  • An ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the unique requirements of individual students, particularly those facing mental health challenges.
  • A patient and understanding approach, when facing challenging behaviour.
  • A proactive and open mindset, working in a multidisciplinary team.
