- Provide positive and effective services for children with mental health disorders.
- Observe patient behaviors, record observations, and lead them in therapeutic and recreational activities.
- Consult with doctors and other mental health professionals as part of the treatment team.
- Assist in implementing treatment plan interventions.
- Defuse and report crises and intervene where appropriate using non-invasive procedures.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment by assisting with groups.
- Communicate significant patient events.
- Orient patient and family to the program.
- Maintain and monitor activities of daily living (ADL) when appropriate.
- Escort patients to various locations.
- Ensure safe and therapeutic care through routine functions.
- Perform vital sings on patients.
- Utilize exceptional observation and communication skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma/GED or associate degree in Mental Health Technology or a related field.
- Advanced training that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing Assistant is beneficial.
- Completion of coursework in gropu psychiatric nursing is beneficial.
- Previous experience as a home health aide or nursing aide is beneficial.
- American Heart Association or Healthcare Provider CPR certification or American Red Cross Professional Rescue is required within thirty days of hire.
- Formal training in the management of aggressive patients is required within 60 days of hire.
- Ability to relate well to people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
- Familiarity with DHS 40 is preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
