This role is ideal for individuals with experience in mental health, psychology, counselling, or special educational needs (SEN) who are committed to making a positive impact on students’ emotional and social development.About the Role:As a Mental Health Support Assistant, you will provide essential support to students experiencing social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties. Working closely with teachers, SEN coordinators and pastoral teams, you will help students develop resilience, coping strategies and a sense of emotional stability, enabling them to engage effectively in their education.Responsibilities of Mental Health Support Assistant:

• Provide tailored emotional and behavioural support to students struggling with mental health challenges, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
• Assist in implementing mental health and well-being interventions, including mindfulness, emotional regulation and self-esteem-building activities.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to develop individualised support plans for students with SEMH needs.
• Support students in managing anxiety, stress and emotional outbursts, using de-escalation strategies and a trauma-informed approach.
• Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging open communication and emotional resilience.
• Assist with the development of coping strategies, social skills and confidence-building exercises for students.
• Provide classroom-based support, adapting learning materials to suit the needs of students with SEMH challenges.
• Promote a culture of inclusivity, well-being and emotional awareness within the school community.

What We’re Looking For: To be considered for this role, you must have:

• Experience in a Mental Health Support, Pastoral, SEN, or Youth Work role is highly desirable.
• A qualification in Psychology, Counselling, Mental Health, Social Work, or Education is beneficial.
• Strong understanding of mental health conditions and intervention strategies in an educational setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with vulnerable students.
• A patient, empathetic and proactive approach to working with children facing emotional and behavioural challenges.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to whole-school well-being initiatives.

• Have the right to work in the UK.
• Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from the last two years.
• Have an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or be willing to apply for a new one through GSL Education.
